Hi, my name is Isabel, I am having difficulty deciding whether I should skip a grade in high school. I accelerate in certain subjects including math and science, taking Pre-Calculus in 8th grade. On the contrary, I do well in other subjects, still obtaining an A+ in Civics and English, but I am not a top student. However, that being said, I still am doing advanced vocabulary in 8th grade, just not as advanced as I would be in the Mathematics field. Any insights and/or advice on the topic of skipping a grade in high school would be much appreciated.
From your other thread, you are looking at applying to schools like Exeter and Andover, in which case I would not recommend skipping a grade just because you are advanced in math and get good grades in your current school. Academically, you will have plenty of academic challenge; experientially you will have a plethora of opportunities to develop your interests in meaningful ways, and developmentally those years are really important.
Is someone recommending you skip a grade? Significant acceleration in a single subject is not a good reason to skip a grade.
Skipping a grade as late as HS is out of the ordinary. Doesn’t your school have graduation requirements - 4 yrs English, etc. At your point, “early graduation” through summer/online/overloaded classes is usually the approach. Most classes don’t really have “grades” anymore. You’re not going to skip “10th grade History” and go to “11th grade History”.
