Skipping French for a year

I’ve been taking French since 6th grade, and next year (11th grade), I would be taking AP French. However, given my class load, I just don’t know if I have enough time to manage the class, and I was wondering whether there was a difference between taking AP French in junior year vs senior year. I plan to take in senior year.

Is this gap year significant to colleges?
