So ... it appears that we will not make it to one of the schools and will be requesting a Skype interview.

Are there negatives to this? Does anyone have an idea if they judge the kids more harshly on a Skype interview? Seems like it might be hard to convey personality, but maybe kids today are more comfortable over video....

Just thought of CC and wanted to see what opinion other parents have. Thank you!

Skype interview is fine. The purpose of interviews is for the Adcom to get a sense of the “real” person behind the application and a Skype sessions allows them to see expressions, mood and demeanor, etc. It also makes the student more memorable to the interviewer after the fact. I.e. puts a face on the name.

If that’s an option, go for it and don’t worry about it.

Daughter had one Skype interview last year and it went really well, I suspect the interviewer had great experience at putting applicants at ease. So many kids use FaceTime and Skype with their friends that it’s now so natural for them to use it. If anything, I would advise that, during the interview, it would lower the pressure if you are conspicuously in another area of your home. Good luck on the process!
