slightly off topic

Why can't the rest of the posters on CC be like the music major folks? I love you guys. Those other people are mean and not too bright.

Hahahahaa!! You know I’m glad you posted, shellybean. Now that the application rush is over and the new one hasn’t begun I’ve been missing the pleasant, helpful commentary and general chitchat. It looks like everyone has gone to ground for the moment. (of course all the while hoping that I’m not falling in the ‘not too bright’ category  )

I’ll ditto the OP <3

saintfan, you are very bright. No need to hope for that. I’m starting to seek guidance for D and am wishing she wanted to major in music (she plays cello, violin, and electric bass) but the silly girl wants to major in biochemistry. I am going to hang out here in musicland though, hoping after the last couple of years of feeding off the great vibe and information here, maybe I can help someone else.

What year is she?

Yes, I too am missing the daily interesting chitchat that suddenly dropped off after everyone figured out the plans for next year. I imagine once fall begins things will pick back up–hopefully all will re-unite here again so we can hear some updates as the year progresses.

My son is enjoying a few last days at home before he heads off to his summer festival. It has been wonderful having him here! Loved being serenaded again with beautiful music.

Saintfan, she will be a senior this fall. Clarimom, so glad you got to spend some time with your son. It is such a joy to hear them play. I don’t know what I’ll do this fall without listening to my son. Can’t wait for the first recital - hopefully we’ll get to go up for that.

My musical kid is #2. Kid #1 has an internship and didn’t come home this summer and #2 is at a jazz workshop so it’s very very quiet. This is our dry run empty next period and we have another 2 weeks in July. I like not having to be anywhere in the afternoon so I’m actually getting stuff done after work and on the weekend, but the quiet is deafening.

Ditto to OP <3

Is your son off to Aspen yet, dec?

You mean that we’re nice AND smart, shellybean?! Aw, shucks, ma’am you’re gonna make us all blush…

This seems like a good place for a shout out to @StacJip for all her great NEC tips . . . saintkid is just wrapping up a his week there and from what little info I’ve gotten it has been excellent! If not for the CC music hive mind he might be heading off to camp at “Podunk U” across the state in the middle of no place where his band director likes to send kids.

Maybe we can save this as our “comments and updates about nothing in particular” thread akin to the class of 20** threads on the main page.

Yeah, while occasionally it can get snippy on here, with certain hot button topics I won’t mention in case the page explodes lol, but for the most part most people on here manage to remain civil and try to help. Like anyplace, people have strong opinions and sometimes they get out of line, especially when discussing the viola quickly running away…:)

I’ve enjoyed hanging out with you guys even though my DS isnt officially a music major. And he’ll be at school with shellybean’ s son! I have to confess, I keep coming back here to see if anything is going on.

I’m missing the chitchat too. My husband is in the hospital right now and reading on here is a wonderful distraction. So any cordial viola drama would be great:).

Sorry to hear about your husband, cellomom6–wishing him a swift recovery!

Funny you should say this! I recently recommended this board to a guidance counselor (in China) for a student she had that was looking to study voice in the US and she was shocked when I explained how friendly and helpful everyone here was! This board is my only cc experience so I had no idea that other boards are not quite so friendly:) This board was an absolute lifesaver for this expat mama. (Right now my small Roman apartment is filled with teenagers laying down tracks for a final album before they all head off to the US, UK, Spain, Korea and Thailand - I will miss this very much in a few months)

Saintfan: yep–S is at Aspen and loving it! I’m so happy for him. D and I spent a week there hiking and biking the mountain trails. Beautiful! So hard to come home.

What’s this about viola drama?

Ha Ha- missed the viola drama- sounds fun, but seriously- this board was a huge help last year- last one through the audition process and of course different instrument is a whole new game- the advice and ideas on here were perfect, and you bet I’ll still be coming back- two in grad school and one in undergrad I need all the good advice and good humor I can get. I too am clueless about the “mean” boards but all of you here are a true class act!
