Slightly short on words. Does this matter?

I am writing my essay for Georgia Tech, and they ask for 5,000 characters or less. Currently, I have about 4,100 characters, and I feel like I can't expand the essay any further without sounding too superfluous. The essay I am submitting to GT is a longer version of my UC statement (about 600 words), which my counselor and English teacher have both said is amazing. So does it hurt me that my essay is a little short?

bump

I would try to look at the thesis, and see if you can add another argument that would work with the thesis. But I doubt the professor is going to go through and count all the characters.

Although, a friend of mine was down by a page, he got an F. So be careful about it. See if the first works. If you have trouble, see what others are doing.

Just to clarify, this is an admissions essay, not an actual essay for a college class.

Then there is no restriction or otherwise. If you feel it is strong, submit it. Admission essays are only a small part of acceptance. GPA and test scores do most of the work.

Ok thank you very much. I figured that was the case. Just wanted to make sure. Thanks!
