Slo

anybody have any details on what the city SLO is like? What’s there to do?

Slo is a very nice college town. It sorta like Chico (if you know where that is) but a little smaller. Every Thursdauy night there is the thursday night market which I here is a lot of fun. Umm.... its close to the beach, within 20 minutes.. On thursday nights there is also line dancing! thats all i know

I personally didn't like SLO when I went there because it is really small. It is beautiful, but unless you like to drink a lot or surf, it's probably not for you. The dorms are really boring, and on weekends everyone has either gone home, or gone out partying, so you're somewhat forced to join the party scene or be at the dorms bored. If you like the small town feel, it's a great choice. Also, in my opinion, Cal Poly has some of the ugliest college buildings I've ever seen. All of us joked at how such a great architecture school can have such horrible buildings...

^^ I thought the same thing when I visited Cal Poly last year. The school looks sooo old and the buildings are so boring, its kinda hard to believe that their Architecture program does so well. On a side note, downtown SLO reminded me of the town in Back to the Future. :)

The gasoline is incredibly expensive, a lot more than what I am used to seeing in SF Bay Area... and about on par with what I have seen in Santa Barbara.

I won't have to worry about that my first year at least(even though down here in LA it's pretty pricey)...going all bike and bus as my main source of transportation. I hope this is the right choice. But i have heard it gets expensive if you bring a car with the whole Parking permits and just a hassle. If you go on campus you see alot of bikes everywhere. Any one else planning on doing this?

kind of off topic, but when does cal poly send out there letters?

Last year, it was the end of fFeb. Year before it was middle of March. Open House isn't until April, so... And ED heard late...

Last year I visited campus the Friday before Presidents Day weekend and they said they were starting to send out the acceptance letters, so I don't know if it will be similar this year or not.

Everyone who applied for ED get their housing settled?...pay your first payment? I did :)

I applied RD. Did you guys do the Cal Poly Scholarship on my.calpoly.edu yet? The one that is due March 2nd. Is it required for all applicants?

I'm doing it. It's worth a try and my mom is forcing me soo. SO if you apply regular decision can you still apply for that scholarship even though you havent been accepted yet? or is it just ED kids?

I believe it's for both ED and RD kids.

kk cooool.

smartblonde: if president's day is next monday, does that mean that SOME can get their letters in 3 days (as in friday)?

Do you guys kknow when housing usually fills up? i dont know yet wether i want the dorms or off-campus, but i dont want to lose out on the dorms... you know?

DORMS.... go with dorm...just the experience you'll gain from the dorms...or so i assume..is gonna be great

there is nothing like waking up at 7:50 and being at your 8 am class on time! Can't do that anywhere else but on campus. You can't even find a place to park that fast. Then you go back, catch a nap, and hit class again. such a life. Off campus you spend all your time, and gas, traveling back and forth. Nap time is spent waiting for parking spaces. Save the stress your first year and live on campus, its just easier.

w00t...i can't wait

What dorms are you guys staying in?
