SLU, Hampden-Sydney, or Roanoke for Pol Sci?

I have to make a decision at the end of this week on where to transfer to for next semester. Which school would be best for Pol Sci?

those are very different schools--slu being in midtown urban st louis blocks from the warzone and hampden sydney in bucolic virginia. very different in size--slu being a midsize jesuit school and HS a very small school.

have you visited? talked with the dpt head?

can't help with roanoke.

i'd base my choice on location not which school is better since with Poly sci you most likely have grad school in mind.

I have got such a soft spot in my heart for Hampden Sydney--such a neat school. I don't know much about their politics department.

Based on what I know about small schools in VA, I would expect that both it and Roanoke benefit from being close to the political zoo up the road in Washington. Access to speakers, events, etc is very good.

My impression is that H-S is stronger than Roanoke College, academically. As for Saint Louis University, it has great liberal arts offerings. However, it sounds like your choice will be primarily based on a school's location and setting. Can't compare suburban Richmond and semi-rural Roanoke with downtown Saint Louis.

Go with HSC, everything about that school is great and like they say "You can do anything with an degree from HSC!"

Do not go to SLU. It's my hometown, and I have a cousin with a law degree there, but despite that I'm still against it. Campus is ugly, if a campus really even exist. Workout facilities are crap, in fact they don't even have a out door track. Though there is 60% out of state, the majorty are from Illinois. A lot of the students (40% in-state) are mainly from the St. Louis metro area. The majorty of students live at home. Esp since the cost of going there is so much. The school doesn't even have a football team. The best they offer is the basketball team, which I will say has been getting better. Academics aren't all that bad, nothing to brag or complain about.

Overall SLU is way over priced for what you get and I would not consider going there.

Pol Sci is a huge major at HSC.So many guys wind upworking in DC they're called the HSC mafia.Beautiful campus, great academics, super athletics, honor code, amazing brotherhood.Visit the campus and talk to the Pol Sci profs.GO TIGERS!!!
