Smal-ish not super liberal schools?

Basically if anyone knows of schools that are 5,000-10,000 students where there is a somewhat conservative vibe. I am not super into politics or anything but there is this vibe that I do not necessarily like when I’m at super small, super liberal schools. I don’t mean to offend anyone but any info would be great. I have 3.7/4.6(inflation at its finest) unweighted/weighted gpa and a 31 act but am retaking. I live in PA so east coast is preferable but anywhere really. Good merit aid is a plus but not top concern. I like both college towns and big cities as long as there is a campus feel. Thank you!

Bucknell, Lehigh, Boston College, Villanova and Holy Cross come to mind. If you don’t mind a little smaller Union College and Trinity College might work.

Not east coast but look at Pepperdine, Southern Methodist University

On the east coast - Providence College, University of Richmond, Wake Forest

  1. Look through this list of Jesuit schools…many are mid sized and in urban locations. I’m sure you can find a number that are in your academic/geographical wheelhouse. Offhand maybe Holy Cross, BC, Fordham http://www.ajcunet.edu/institutions/
  2. Some others that came to mind are Lehigh, Villanova, URichmond, Providence, Notre Dame

Miami of Ohio. It is within spitting distance of your 10k limit (no real grad students). You could get schilarship $ there.

Thank you very much! Real challenge- are there any that are not preppy as I know a lot of these ones are. Also, I’ll most likely be doing something in the sciences if that changes anything. @HRSMom I actually was at Miami recently and just did not get a good vibe.

Holy Cross and Lehigh are not very preppy

You might want to look at some UAA schools such as URochester.

northeastern? A little big.

There are a number of small privates in Oh that give merit!

College of Charleston

An oddball list, but check them out for merit:

Ohio Northern U has a cute campus town.

Elon U is smallish and has merit. Nice campus,
but a bit "middle of Nowhere.

@carolinamom2boys definitely interesting. Do you know how their merit aid is for out of state students?

For high stats students , they do offer merit aid. It is a public school, not private, so merit is not as generous, but they have quite a few departmental scholarships .

Xavier U

Case Western, perhaps? Pitt? Carnegie Mellon? I don’t know too much about the last two with respect to political vibe but I think they are “relatively” moderate/diverse politically and are both reasonably sized.

If you’re willing to go a little smaller, maybe Ohio Wesleyan (not in a city but near Columbus). You’d probably have a decent shot for merit money there.

@OnTheBubble
Holy Cross is more preppy than not

agree - we visited HC. Very preppy - Very suburban white vibe. No merit and ~2400 students.

@suzyQ7
Holy Cross is closer to 3,000 undergrads, so a bit bigger than a lot of other LACs

University of Denver? A tad larger than you mentioned, but under 12,000 students, about half of that undergraduates.

-Carnegie Mellon University
-St. Olaf College
