My son is a Freshman and as we were going through the decision process, we were very pleased that it seemed like a small campus feel. I'm not sure how they do this but they accomplished this successfully.

1) The admission tours were very small around 40 people and then broken into smaller groups.

2) Everytime we called we actually got a real person to talk to and seemed very knowlegable

3) Recommend living in a Living Learning Center

4) Some Freshman classes were taught within the dorm

5) Advisors that seem to know what they are doing

Did anyone else feel the small campus feel within a large university?

We had a “small school” experience today. My daughter did not enter IU as a Hutton student, but after her first semester she qualified. She called the Hutton department today to ask if they could speed up the process of admitting her so she could get some honors classes this semester. Within two hours she had her official admittance email and had gone online and enrolled for K204 and wait listed A205. We found it remarkable that a school so large could turn her request around so quickly, and doubly amazing that she could actually rearrange her schedule at this late date to get into one (or possibly two) honors classes. We’ve heard stories over and over from her friends at state schools here in California how hard it’s been to get classes. Two people we know weren’t able to get a single class that fills a requirement next semester. So we are both grateful for everything IU does to make it work so well despite its size.
