why does everyone here seem to be from huge schools? it's scary!!! my graduating class is less than 90 and my school only offers four APs...we have next to nothing for ECs and before this year, when we got about twenty kids from liberia, we only had two or three non-white students...

can people from small schools get into the top colleges?

Of course you can get into top schools if you have the academic profile they're looking for! Your school's lack of ECs can be offset by your work within your church or community. And, you can participate in school or community athletics if you so choose.

Colleges take the school you attended and its size and offerings into account when reviewing your file. Colleges seek a broad range of students from different backgrounds and experiences when they build their freshman classes.

Don't be discouraged! Go for fit, so that your 4-year college experience will be the very best it can be! :)

I got to a small school too. 109 people in the senior class. Only about 6 APs. In the past few years we have sent people to Brown, Dartmouth, Columbia, and other really good schools. It can be done.

we have an average class size of around 80. we usually have about 45 to top schools, not necessarily all ivy (around 10 ivy), but like michigan or better. But this year we've implemented a ton more AP's for juniors, we used to just offer 2, but now students like me are taking 3 junior year and like 4 or 5 senior year. The most anyone in our school's history has taken 6 in one year -- but those two kids were just pure geniuses (is that a word?)-- they got into every ivy.

but yeah, small school gives you the chance to start your own EC's. If they're not there, start it! thats what colleges like to see.

My graduating class has 602 people and the ranked #1-200 have 90+ Unweighted average so it's highly competitive here.

And anyways..i've always liked a small atmosphere where GC's know you in a deep extent...my GC handles about 75-80 of us so she is always too busy to get to know us fully and discuss any problems or concerns that we may have.

my school is similar, but in a smaller scale. 50/95 of us in my grade have higher than a 90 avg and we have 2 GC's for all 350 kids in the HS.

but i dont know if its fair to compare my school b/c honestly, its a very upper class neighborhood and considered one of better public schools in the nation, so i dont want to have any bias thus ruining the survey.
