SMC to UCLA Life Science Major!

So I started SMC this past fall and I was planning to major in Psychology but I lost interest & now I want to major in microbiology , immunology, and molecular genetics. I have been thinking about doing pre-med after I transfer but I’m still deciding…no official answer. What I really want to do is do a lot of clinical research later on. Anyway, I looked at assist.org and the classes I need to take for my major & there is NO way I can complete it all in 2 years. I have to complete that and the IGETC requirements. It’s a lot to take in with lots of chem and math classes, plus I’m an out-of-state student so it’s more money if I take winter and summer classes.

My question here is if it’s okay I do community college for 3 years? Would this also affect my chances to get into Med School in the future? I also made A’s & B’s for the fall semester. I’m aiming for straight A’s this spring. Also is it okay if I transfer with over 80 units? Would this hurt my chances to get into UCLA?

I prefer to finish everything in 3 years and make straight A’s than cramming everything in 2 years and make my life miserable.

oh btw I planned everything out in 3 years & saw that I was able to complete all my requirements in 3 years. I also planned it all out in 2 years and I’ll still have some classes missing from my major & IGETC, but I’ll have 60 units completed, just not everything for my major. Can I still apply even though I will have some things missing? I prefer not to do that plan but just asking.

I’m not sure about med school, so please don’t take my advice and apply it to that.

That being said, you can spend 10 years at CC and it won’t affect your application to a UC.

Also, UC transfer questions go here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/

haha thank you! I will repost inthe UC transfer questions haha sorry. I’m so new to this

I believe you can but are you part of the STEM program maybe you can ask them my sister did that but she transfer in two years with all courses she wanted for the med school?
