smiling

Just an observation, most people I know(especially girls) have the ability to smile on command and they can turn it on and off like a light switch. I can't do this however(my fake smiles look really creepy), and most people when they first meet me assume I am a very serious person because I don't smile very obviously (i.e. my teeth don't show, its more like a smirk), only my close friends can really tell when I'm smiling easily. Anyone else like this? And for those who can smile on command, did you have to learn how to do it or does it just come naturally?

^ theres a CC course on fake smiling. Look it up. You might need it when you're trying to convince those crazy kids not to cut your finger, which is gonna be sent to your family unless ransom money is paid.Yeah...jsut carry a shotgun at all times...

i'm just like that. all my friends say that i'm serious all the time and never smile or laugh. i just think my smile is hideous so i rarely use it.

My real smile is creepy too.

I can smile anytime except during school pictures- I always end up looking ****ed off

I smile a lot, but my smile is hideous. I figure it's better to look slightly odd but welcoming than ****ed off. My smile turns off and on quickly though. I always smile when a friend is talking to me. It gives the impression that I'm listening and that I actually care; whether or not I really do is irrelevant. It goes off as soon as I look away though. My best friend says it's funny to watch.

I have like the opposite problem of you! Haha.

I can't stop smiling, pretty much. People think I'm never serious, and I look terrible when I'm not smiling. People who meet me think I'm outgoing and ditzy, which is totally not me.

Just think of something funny or a really good moment (winning a prize, having good times with your friends) and you'll smile naturally.

^totally agree with tako.

Think of something hilariously funny. Don't burst out like "HAHAHA OMG THAT WAS SO FUNNY" but you'll probably get a more natural smile out.

I can't stop smiling either. It's ****ing annoying because even when I'm upset it looks like I'm smiling. I despise the "you're smiling! that means you're lying!" thing. How can you not be able to smile on command? It's easy...you just smile...I mean how hard is that? Anyways, be thankful that that at least you don't naturally look like you're smiling all the time.

^ some people look wierd when they smile on commad. Its like their face suddenly gets stretched, and theres not eneough skin to cover all of it...its way wierd

I smile a lot naturally...makes life easier. :)

yeah, and smiling with braces is becoming for all folks.

I used to be exactly like you, Nalcon. However, when I started high school I started smiling more, and now it's second nature to me.

I was like that before high school. Then I started caring more for myself and it increased my self-confidence, so I'm not so freaked out about smiling anymore. I used to hide my smiles--I thought I was making a fool of myself. Now, I just smile automatically most of the time and sometimes I don't even realize I'm doing it. People say I'm bubbly.
Do you think self-esteem could be the problem?

actually most of my friends consider me to be very arrogant, although they admit most of it is warranted, on the flip side however, people who don't know me well(i.e. most teachers) consider me to be very modest and humble because they don't hear me talk informally.

born annoying:

I totally have that problem too! Like I'll be mildly (or sometimes even majorly) annoyed at somebody, and I'll tell them to stop, but they'll be like, "oh but you're smiling! that's means you like it!" and whatnot. Sometimes even when I'm angry I'll still look like I'm smiling.

The only time I don't smile is when I'm really sad. Good thing too, can you imagine smiling while your friend is crying her heart out about something?

I tend to smile a lot too unless I'm ticked off. In fact, my constant smiling in middle and high school led to some people referring to me as "the joker" since I could do it seemingly whenever--like even if someone was crying over being dumped.

i tend to smirk a lot. not full blown grins or smiles. smirks. i guess, when i think about it, its kinda weird. like, why not just full out grin, for goodness' sake?
eh.

Once a teacher was yelling at my friends, but I was sitting nearby "smirking" so I got in trouble too, even though I don't even know what I got in trouble for that day. Life's unfair.

Tako- That happens to me all the time! I baby-sit a lot and when I want the kids to stop they won't because they think I like it because I'm smiling.

C'mon, smile. All the cool kids do it.
