I just can't keep me from thinking about what will I do with my Smith degree and how will I use my vacation time. I know my parents have a hard time getting the money for college together, and I want to be independet and have all my loans payed of as soon as possible, so here my questions:
What are your experiences with the Smith Career Center? How good do they support you on you search for internships/jobs(after you used your PRAXIS)? How hard is it to find internships in an art major realted field?
thx Johanna

Wish I could help more, but I'm, afraid I only have a website for you to look at.

Might be a start though. You really need advice from a current Smithie or a graduate. Perhaps one of the other parents who have older daughters might be able to help with this question.

To be honest, I haven't had to use the CDO yet, but from what I have heard and from what i know from being a Gold Key tour guide, they are very helpful. One of the great things about them is that they keep a library of internships, binders full of reports made by students who had internships in all different fields (after you use your PRAXIS you have to do one of these reports) that you can browse through to look for opportunities. Also, they are supposedly amazing at helping you prepare your resume and prep for interviews, you can make an appointment for that, go to drop in hours, or attend one of their seminars. And they send out emails pretty much every week wtih info on internships and recruiting opportunities. Plus, the CDO is a lifelong resource, alums can come back to it at any point during your career for help. Don't worry too much, one of the great things about a Smith degree is that it'll prepare you to do lots of things, and the CDO will support you.

The helpfulness of the CDO varies on what you need help with. For workshops preparing you to write resumes, cover letters, and be ready for interviews, I think it's pretty great. You can also schedule appointments to have someone look at your resume or do a practice interview. I've gone to all of these things and have had pretty good experiences so far.

They have a database where you can look for internships as well, and this is where it's not as good. The database is pretty good if you are looking for an internship in a large east coast city. If you're looking for one in the middle of Pennsylvania because you want to spend one more summer at home, it's not as useful.

There's also a suit yourself program, where you can borrow a business suit for an interview, and Smith will reimburse your dry cleaning bill.

Speaking of suits, you can also get up to $200 through the college to purchase your own suit for a job or internship.

Getting money to buy a suit...wow they really think about everything!
Does anyone have experience with internships in Europe?
