cut off - when is this announced? I read they were changing it for '13. Does anyone know what has been changed?

It is only the top 25% of the class…no set GPA as in the past. Not sure if they have announced it yet.

If you’re still wondering (I know I was), I finally broke and emailed my Dean to ask about it. Here’s the (rather curt?) response:

"Dear Diana,

If you made the Dean’s list you will be notified in the fall. Here’s the logistics of it:

“The Dean’s List is made up of students who represent the top 25 percent of the student body based on the total records for the previous academic year. Students must be enrolled at Smith for the full year to be named to the Dean’s List.” College Catalog, p. 29

You would not be privy to knowing the cut-off for the list.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Dean Stangl"

in other words, you’re out of luck until they choose to announce it sometime between now and September (you know Smith and deadlines…).

Check your Banner Web - it might be on there by now.

If anyone’s still interested, Dean’s List letters have been sent out. GPA cutoff is 3.33.

On a slightly different note, does anyone know whether First Group Scholars has been eliminated? I think someone mentioned on a Dean’s List/First Group thread last year that they were going to eliminate it but nothing definitive. I’m curious because last year I got both, but this year I actually got slightly better grades (only one A- instead of two) and only got Dean’s List, so I’d be surprised if it were still in place unless they changed the requirements. Anyone know?

THANK YOU - still adjusting to the Smith way of doing things…

Two things: first, there are no more “First Group Scholars.” That title has been eliminated.

Secondly, there is currently a “two-tier” criteria for Dean’s List. The Class of 2016 made the Dean’s List by being in the top 25% of the school for GPA. No “cutoff” was announced.

The rest of the school is still under the 3.33 GPA rule. I guess in a sense they “grandmothered” them in. :)
