I’m a transfer student trying to decide between Smith and Boston College. If anyone has any thoughts, input, opinions, etc. I would be very grateful to hear! Thanks!
With no information about you and what you want in a college experience no one can really help you.
Obviously I am not a computer science major and don’t know how to edit my original post so please refer to a new thread I made under the same name. Thank you.
Why did each of these end up on your transfer application list?
Are they equally affordable?
What is your probable major?
Was Smith being a women’s college a plus when you applied, or was it something that you just figured you could tolerate if you ended up there?
How important was the cross-registration possible at Smith to your decision to apply there?
BC unless single sex or Northhampton vibe is compelling for you. The five colllege consortium gets mentioned a lot. Its a plus but Amherst and northhampton and my Holyoke are driving not walking or bicycling distances. Their influence on each other are little to none.
@happymomof1 A little background: I am transferring from a women’s college so that is a big factor, considering going to BC would mean giving up a single sex education. My major at Smith would be govt, and my major at BC would be communications, in hopes of a career in journalism. One of the major reasons I’m transferring is for a better dance program, and I am aware Smith would give me access to a large array of classes through the Consortium. I am not as familiar with the dance program at BC which leaves a question mark for me. Also thinking towards the future, I am looking at some top schools for grad school and wonder if there is a discrepancy between BC and Smith in terms of how grad schools would view them. Thanks!
Smith has excellent grad school placement, so I wouldn’t worry about that. I’m not familiar with BC, so can’t speak to it.
I expect that both dance programs have some sort of FB group in addition to whatever is in the academic information on the websites, so google around a bit and see what you can find. There also might be help here in the individual college forums and in the dance major forum. Go to the main page where all of the forums are listed, and scroll down to find them.
There are so many clubs at BC and dance options. Stomp Irish step. Ballet The Grouos including the fleabags (amy pohler from snl group) and other performing clubs. Dance is part of many.
And huge student center with dance studios just completed for fall 2018
BC is not NYU or usc for creative arts. But it’s has so many options for you.
Any school you attend if you have terrific grades and boards it will lead to great grad options.
Not sure what you are asking but if it is whether you are at a disadvantage at one vs other for grad school . The answer is absolutely not for any academic difference. It’s all about size vibe and resources for you.
I would be hard pressed to find two schools with less in common non academicly in Massachusetts at this level of excellence. It’s an apples to oranges comparison
