I’m stuck on what to write for the smith supplement this year: if you could star in any movie, movie would you pick and why? I’m wondering if I should go for a feminist movie or maybe something more humorous…any ideas out there??
You’re overthinking it. They want to know about you, and they want to see how well you express yourself. Present your honest self, not what you think the admissions office wants you to be.
Ok, thanks! It’s just hard for me to think of a movie I can describe well enough why I would want to star in it.
Exactly what twobugs said. I was admitted to Smith with a supplement that I wrote based on my true self . I didn’t write anything about feminism or social justice in there. It talked about myself and what makes me laugh (that was the prompt). I also overthought it in the beginning, till my counsellor told me to be honest and that nobody would believe me if I said “Marx makes me laugh” (not that I was planning to write that lol).
I agree with what everyone else said. My daughter said that some girls did the “humble-brag” thing in their supplementals, but my daughter just told a funny story (that was her prompt) that truly made her laugh. Obviously some of the girls who went the humble-brag route got in so you could do that…but so did girls who just followed the prompt and just wrote a funny story.
I have a question as well, do I talk about why I love that movie and talk about the fictional adventure that I would love to undertake? Or should I talk about it from the point of view of an actor, and why it would be challenging but worthwhile for me to act in that particular movie?
Whichever you feel like would make a better essay For me, the prompt was “what makes you laugh?” I wrote about my cat, someone else wrote about what made her aunt laugh after her cousin died, someone else wrote about all of the amazing research and stuff she’s done (honestly didn’t even fit the prompt), and we all got in. Write whatever you feel like you’re most passionate about!
@douxrien that’s what I’m wondering too, I’m a little confused on which viewpoint to take it from. But maybe it just doesn’t matter to them since it wasn’t made clear in the prompt. Can I ask what you ended up doing?
I ended up talking about how I’d love to play Maria from The Sound of Music because I love singing…
What did you end up doing? @sapphiccatlover
Would you mind looking at my supplement? I could PM you
Hated this question as I hate acting. I hope you found something nice.
