Smoke from Canadian forest fires (or others)

Husband is at Neil Diamond show on Broadway. He says theaters are packed with people trying to get indoors. His sister says similar to 9/11 except smell not as bad as then.

My 22 year old is training for another half marathon (she’s done a few), she was planning a run last night after work but ended up on the treadmill. My 20 year old daughter started running again a lot these past few months at college and now at home (both ran in HS) and ended up at the gym. The temperature outside is finally perfect.

It came on so suddenly in central CT yest. I went into a store in the late AM, and it was fine. I came out maybe a half hour late and thought, “Where is the fire?” Visibility was greatly reduced. But then I realized it was the Canada fires. Asthma patients are having exacerbations. If it’s this bad in the spring, what will it be like in the summer and early fall? We’ve had drought conditions every summer in the Northeast for probably the past 5 years.

I think Canadia should pay reparations to the US.

Yesterday I could notice our air being icky, and thought 85 was high. I didn’t know about the fires then. And then I saw older S’ location was in the 150s and read about the fires. Currently S is at 178 to our 102.

My mom lives south of Bethlehem, PA where the level is at 342!

A couple of biggish ones are burning in BC… we will get some of that smoke here in my PNW neck of the woods soon.

Stay safe everyone!

Eastern PA

I’m not an expert, but I read that today might be the worst. Then I looked at the wind direction for the week and it doesn’t change. :woman_shrugging:

There is some chance of rain in NYC and suburbs on Friday. That might wash some of the particulate matter out of the air.

And now 249, I’d love some rain. ETA another weird thing, my annoying dog likes to go in and out dozens of times a day (bell out bark in), but not today.

My husband just sent me this photo of NYC he found online somewhere. We are supposed to go to an outdoor concert tonight but I am wondering if that is still a good idea. It is a weird hazy yellow outside and it smells like a sweet pipe or cigar (SE PA area).

I’ve lived in SoCal all of my life. I feel for all of the adults and children with respiratory illnesses currently being affected. The worst fires, in our county (in 2003), were the ones that were burning in every area of the county and the skies looked exactly like what the pictures are showing currently on the east coast.

We were given evacuation routes to the coast, as they had set up the fairgrounds for shelters, but then, you weren’t allowed to leave. The News agencies gave alerts about staying indoors, not driving anywhere and most local businesses were closed because of the fumes generated from the chemicals that were burning. There was a lot of ash on all of the windowsills. Piles of it all over the ground.

Please be careful out there! It will get into your throat. I can’t imagine going to a show in that haze. Even if you don’t have respiratory illnesses, it’s not good for your body.

Kid is in NYC. Work was cancelled but cat-sitting for a friend which means a long walk. No AC or air purifiers. They are wearing a KN95.

I am in MA and felt sick from it yesterday but today is improved. I kept the car Ac circulating inside air and wore a mask yesterday.

I’m in NE Ohio. Yesterday was very hazy. Today, the sky is a clear blue…much better. I’m suspect this is going to go up and down.

I happen to have one with me…oddly. Left in my purse just in case I needed a mask someplace. I’m hoping I really don’t need it!

I just pulled out the mask bin and found a 5 pack.
