SMU Class of 2017 EA/RD Discussion Thread

Should admitted students have a password for Access.SMU already?

Did all of the Presidential Scholarship invitations get mailed yet?

Bandmom123- I just emailed my admissions counselor this week with the same question. She told me that only a handful of applicants from EA have already been invited for Presidential Scholars. Most EA applicants getting a Presidential Scholarship invitation will get it along with RD applicants. So don’t worry!

kmoody:Thanks for the info! Do you know when the regular decision PS are being mailed out?

@Hippiechicken: You should be getting directions on how to create your password in the mail near the end of Jan. or begining of Feb. Make sure to keep your “Next Steps” paper from your acceptance packet, because it has your SMU ID number in it!

Does anyone know if the Honors Program comes with or leads to additional scholarship money? I received the second century ($20K/yr) with my acceptance letter. I also received $5K/yr from the Business school following my invitation to BBA Scholars.

^^ agreed. I got the same offers but need at least 5k more.

@barizona and Ktf1994: The University Honors program does not have any scholarship money associated with it, but it is a phenominal program that few students have the opportunity to be a part of. I would encourage you to look into third party scholarships.

Hey guys,

I just emailed my admissions couselor today regarding the PS invites and this is what she said:
“The President Scholar invites for Early Action already went out to a select group of students, but the Committee will meet again in early February to select a second group of interviewees. It is always possible they will re-review Early Action applicants in this second meeting, but not guaranteed.”

So basically, additonal invites to PS scholarship may or may not be sent. Im kinda really sad because I was hoping for one :(

Can anyone who got a PS invite please post their stats and when they got it

Thanks!

Has anyone tried to submit their deposit online? I put in my ID and everything and hit the submit button but it just took me back to the original page. Has that happened to anyone else?

Hi,

Yes, if PS invitees could list their stats, that would be great. Did anyone in TX receive one? Thank you!

If you’re having trouble submitting your deposit, contact your admissions counselor so that they can get it straightened out!

Does anyone know when we will hear about what college within SMU we were accepted to?

ATexas - unless you have applied to one of the Arts, SMU does not accept you into a particular college. There is a general curriculum that everyone has to take which usually covers your classes the first year.

@wrestlingmom Select freshmen can be admitted to Cox Business as well.

Does anyone have any idea when deferred students will hear back?

Does anyone know the acceptance rate for EA students who were originally deferred? What percent of deferred early action applicants end up being accepted in March during the regular decision process ?

bcasper,

It is rare for any school to disclose the information you seek and I have not seen any for SMU. Keep in mind that a deferral is not so much a ‘maybe’ as it is ‘we want to see more’. How did the applicant do in the 1st semester of his/her senior year? Is an upward or downward trend confirmed? The applicant has more influence on what happens at the end of March than past history. If you have some noteworthy achievements since sending off your EA application let the admissions office know.

Does anyone know when they will be sending out acceptance letters to the regular decision applicants?

I might be receiving my letter on the 12th! Can’t wait to see what it is. Just got an Email from UPS saying that it would arrive on the 12th. I applied RD.
