SMU. Ive heard it to be 'stuck up', is this true?

SMU Cox is one of the schools I will be submitting my application too in a few days. I will be applying there regardless, however I have a question that more concerns whether I accept (assuming I get in). Is the student body at SMU THAT stuck up? I personally do not know any SMU students and my tours there went really well. However, I keep hearing how the mentality there is a tad snobbish. Personally, I abhor people who flaunt ‘daddy’s money’ around like they worked for it themselves. That being said, SMU is a great college for me for a variety of reasons. But this could be a deal breaker.

We have found the students and parents at SMU to be friendly and just down-right nice. Just as with any school, there are those with money and those with large scholarships. SMU is more diverse (economically, geographically, ethnically) today than 20 years ago, but many opinions of the school are based on that makeup from years ago. You have visited once, but if you can visit again, I’d suggest spending time just walking campus and getting a feel for the students. I think you’ll find a very welcoming environment.

Take a look at the common data set for SMU and you may be surprised how many are receiving aid.

I have never seen anything like that and we just dropped off our son there as a freshman, participated in all the orientation activities, and made a couple tours. Everyone is extremely friendly and down to earth. The only thing I’ve noticed here (and its a good thing) is that the students may dress up a touch more here for occasions than other schools I’ve seen. I think that is nice as it shows respect for the event and the participants. But you will still see plenty of gym clothes and flip flops on hot days.

Dittos on the points about financial aid and diversity.
