I know that SMU is all about the frat/sor scene, but I was wondering is it hard to have a social life if you don't belong to one? I haven't decided if that's something i'd be into, and even if i was it seems like its extremely expensive there...

No. The Greek scene is very involved, but you do NOT have to be Greek to fit in, or have fun at SMU.

Right off the SMU website:
Greek Participation – About 2,300 students are members of sororities and fraternities.

Thats out of about 6,000 undergraduates. Approximately 11,000 students total. Although that might be a larger percentage compared to some schools, it obviously isn’t half of the student body. I go to SMU and I am not Greek, and I have many Greek friends, and many who aren’t. We all love each other! :)

I transferred from a state school, and I don’t think SMU’s Greek is any bigger than where I went before.

Don’t let it scare you away.

Pony up!
