So I just recently finished this semester with a 2.15 gpa with 37 credits after a bit of a rough start dealing with personal matters. I am applying to University of Arizona ( U of A) and SMU. I haven’t applied yet but I wanted someone to share their experiences.
- What are my chances?
- Has anyone been accepted for transfer with a 2.0 gpa?
- What school(s) should I apply to if I happen not to be accepted?
SMU is completely out of reach. Arizona is likely out of reach too. It would be better to stay where you are and transfer once your GPA i better and you have resolved your personal matters.
Thanks. I’m 22 years old I just thought I could get into Arizona. They say you need at least a 2.0 gpa with 30 or more credits. Should I apply?
I just thought SMU would be a shot because they only take people who can afford to go to the school. Both very good schools tho.
SMU takes people who can afford to attend and are likely to graduate.
I’ve recently applied to SMU last week and I wanted to see what would my chances be of getting in with a 2.6 GPA. The past 2 prior universities I’ve attended (In 2016 and 2017), I earned a 3.5 at one school, and a 3.05 at the other one. These are the most recent universities that were actually accredited and counted towards my “real” GPA and credit count. The first university I attended back in 2014 wasn’t accredited which led me to withdraw and of course my GPA was low at that school due to my grades not actually counting in regards to being transferable. So although the initial college I attended wasn’t accredited, would SMU count that school towards my GPA although they don’t truly count? And if so, would a 2.6 be a good chance to get in?
Very unlikely, although they may look at your most recent grades instead. According to the 2017 CDS
“If a minimum college grade point average is required of transfer applicants, specify (on a 4.0 scale): 2.7+ recommended”. Seems like the admissions office would be able to help you understand which transcripts are going to be used. Your gpa is most likely not going to lead to any merit scholarships - are you able to afford the $70,000 / year tuition and, is that the best idea when you seem to be jumping around a lot?
Very true. My most recent transcripts are pretty good. So there’s a possibility I’ll get in maybe. I’m transferring to SMU for football as well so I’ll be receiving a scholarship from the program once I get accepted. I withdrew from the first university of course because it wasn’t accredited and I wanted to transfer after 1-2 years. Then I transferred to another school and they need my transcripts from that first university I attended which costed around 6-7 grand… Couldn’t register for classes at the second school do to them not having all of my prior transcripts so I decided to transfer again to another school and they were willing to give me a grace period to get my transcript from the first college. Sucks having to pay for a transcript that doesn’t hold any weight in regards to my credits.
I’m pretty sure after I explain the situation with the first college to SMU about them not being accredited, they’ll understand that that was just a bump in the road. Since the 2 most recent schools I’ve attended was actually accredited, I’m sure they’ll just average out those 2 schools where the credits actually count which should be in the 3.3 range…
