Snootiness?

I had a friend whose mother encouraged her to go to Smith, because her sister had gone to Wellesley and her mother said there were a lot of snooty people at Wellesley. Smith is a little TOO laidback and un-academically focused for my tastes. Any students care to defend against this accusation of snootiness?

Um. My name is Kate, and I attend Wellesley College. My girlfriend and I are not snooty, nor are the majority of Wellesley Students. I have not, personally, experienced the "pc-ness" many college websites often mention about Wellesley, nor have I experienced any (what you call) snootiness.

I have, however, met people smarter than me who are willing to help me with my studies.

I think most Wellesley students are nice and humble. My only complaint, however, is that many students get stressed.

I've heard the "stuck up" complaint before, but I have never felt in my time here that it was justified.

I've also heard the "stuck up" complaint in relative terms with Smith. It probably comes from people who don't think that Smith is too laid back. For them, it's "just right." If Smith to you sounds to laid back, then maybe Wellesley is "just right."
