people on the university of maryland facebook page’s comments on the update about today’s closing are starting to say school is on for tomorrow…bad news bears! but it’s not up on umd.edu yet

it would be stupid to go back just for Friday, but it was also a bit stupid to cancel classes last Friday unnecessarily, so UMD doesn’t have the greatest track record right now as far as smart decisions go!

Never give up, never surrender!

Everytime I finish a page of reading, I’m refreshing umd.edu. I want to go to class, but… on Monday. Hopefully.

CLOSED!

Dear Members of the Campus Community:

The campus will be closed again on Friday, February 12, due to the record-breaking snowfalls of the past several days.

While the campus roads and the great majority of parking spaces have been cleared, the sidewalks and steps remain treacherous. We are also concerned about falling ice and snow from roofs and trees. In addition, many of our faculty, staff, and commuter students are still experiencing unplowed or only partially cleared secondary streets, and the status of public transportation is uncertain. The safety of our community is paramount, and hence, we believe it is wise to close for one more day to ensure that the campus is safe for resuming full operations next week.

There will be further communication with faculty next week about possible arrangements to make up for lost classroom time.

I’m sure you will want to join me in thanking and commending our grounds, maintenance, residence hall, and dining staff for their tireless efforts to keep the campus functioning for our resident students. With remarkable dedication and determination, these employees have been working virtually 24/7. We are very proud of them.

Sincerely,
Nariman Farvardin
Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost

Beautiful!!! Well folks, unless we get more snow that’s it for me on CC! Gotta get back on track with classes =)

Have wonderful semestersss

After driving through campus today, I understand why school is still off. Lot 1 was plowed, as in the spots were available, but it was impossible to drive through the lots because the plows had dumped all the snow at the entrances/exits to the lot. There were a lot of sidewalks still unplowed, and at least early in the morning, everything was covered in ice.

Also, the trash situation at South Campus Commons is, well, a mess. They haven’t been able to take it out the recycling effectively, so our trash rooms have filled up with recyclables, making it impossible to get to the trash chute, which means people are just leaving their trash in the room. Hopefully they fix this soon. Also, the gutters on Charles Hall and Allegheny Hall (South Hill) have fallen off due to the snow.

All in all, I’ve enjoyed the February break, but I think I’m recharged enough to go back to class.

Hmmm. I wonder what “possible arrangements to make up for lost classroom time” means. I guess you’ll find out soon enough!

Their not going to make up for anything, most professors just post the lectures online and tell their students to learn it themselves. Welcome to a big school.
