So, now that class is cancelled on Monday and move in is Sunday and Monday, who is going back on Monday instead of Sunday? If they get the 12-18" that is predicted, how bad is Newark going to be if we get there on Sunday?

Bill (north of NYC in the 1-3" forecast area :-) ).

Hopefully most students won’t need to move much stuff into their dorms and apartments. Even so I expect that Sunday will be crowded, given snowfall on Saturday and workday (for most) on Monday.

We have a bunch of stuff to bring back, but nothing really bulky like normal move-in. I’m just wondering how clear all of Newark is going to be given the large amounts of snow. How well do they handle big snowfalls there?

They don’t handle snow at all! Was down there last weekend when they got hit with about 5 inches - didn’t see a plow the entire time and very few streets got sand/salt. It was a mess - dozens of accidents everywhere. Even when we left Sunday, the streets were still not plowed.

That’s not good! I’m waiting for a message from them on Saturday saying that things are unpassable, class is cancelled on Tuesday as well and do not come down on Sunday.

A native of Newark told me that when it snows, Newark brings in snow removal equipment from other communities. With the whole area getting hit so hard that will be very difficult during and after this storm. I wouldn’t hold out much help for clear roads.
My son was complaining about how difficult it was to run after the snow last weekend. We are from the Chicago area so he is used to more snow than they got last week. He is already at school finishing the winter semester and we are grateful we don’t have to worry about getting him back out there with the storm this weekend.
Best of luck!

Ouch. The amusing thing is, when my son decided to go to Delaware instead of one of the schools in upstate New York, we figured this wouldn’t be an issue!

It looks like they are going to get walloped again. The weather forecast is calling for 12-18 inches between Tues. night and Wed. I think DS is regretting leaving his boots at home.

Not a good idea to have gone back without boots.

We drove down today I was surprised that the snow was not really that heavy until we got over the Delaware Memorial bridge. The roads other than the major ones were not very good. Secondary roads were not totally clear. And local roads like Haines (where my son’s dorm is) were a single lane in some places. Main Street had no parking, the meters were covered.
