So here is the short version. I ended up with a 89 for Quarter II in AP Spanish and I got an 84 on the AP Eng. Lit. midterm and will probably get another B on the Spanish midterm. So my question is I guess...should I even bother holding out hope for the four Ivies I applied to (HYP and UPenn)? Other than this, my transcript is fine w/ all As and my SATs are decent along with my ECs which while nothing amazing are decent imo.

A lot of my friends got into Cornell ED. One of them had a B- and a solid B 1st quarter, another one had 2 solid Bs. Others’ transcripts were also far from perfect (2110 SATs). 4 of them were unhooked White and Asian kids from NJ. They got into an Ivy League with Bs, semi-decent SATs, and a 2x demographic disadvantage.

So don’t worry about it haha, we’re in the same boat. I’d say a 2100+ SAT and 3.8 GPA barely qualifies you. From there on, it all depends on subjective factors.

Alright that (somewhat) reassures me. I would b****&moan about how my AP teachers don’t properly curve our midterms while giving out actual AP exams, but whatever at this point.

Yeah my colleges are just going to have to understand that I’m not really slacking off…and if they can’t, their loss right?

you still have a chance, so no need to lose hope

Haha dude, I had straight As 1st quarter. Now in the 2nd quarter I have 2 B+es. No need to worry man, if they’re gonna admit you, they will admit you. With or without those Bs senior year haha =D

don’t worry about them since there’s nothing you can do about them.

No, not really.

haha. Either way, don’t worry about; your two B’s wouldn’t preclude admission.

I could complain about how a 93 is the lowest A at my school… :P

Don’t worry, there’s a lot of factors to consider apart from GPA: I subscribe to the belief that Harvard will take the 3.8 with a hard course load over the 4.0 paper valedictorian.

DUDE YOU’RE SCREWED!!! you now can only go to a public university work harder man!! smh

There are plenty of 4.0 valedictorians with hard course loads. :P

That being said, a couple of B’s aren’t going to ruin your life or admission prospects.

@sparklesheen: yeah, i know; just not at my school. our weighting system doesn’t really help people who take hard course loads-- AP’s are worth 4.48 and Honors are 4.4. it actually kind of encourages some people to take the easy way out.

i think that maybe having a b or two might actually help in some cases. make you look like less of a robot.

Oh no… I have B’s speckled all over my application because I messed up my Freshman year and only got a 3.25. You’ve all got me beat.
