So about the membership of top frats...

So I thought I wrote about this but somehow it didnt showed up on the forum. Anyway I have noticed that there are a different councils in the USC Grreek system and they basically separated by ethnicity, with the exception of the multicultural council. You have your Asian frats, African-American frats, Jewish frats, etc. I saw a dozen of pictures of top frats ( SAE, Lambda, Phi Psi, Sigma Chi, etc.) being dominated it by the stereotypical lean and tall Caucasian. So my question for current students really, are do these images for these particular top fratshold truev today? If a student does not embody the stereotypical jock image, and if he's a stereotypical asain, would he be able to join these frats? Thanks*

if you’re a stereotypical asian, you wouldn’t want to be in those ‘top frats’ anyway. sure, the partying and getting chicks and broing out sounds great, but if you really are a stereotypical asian, you would rather spend that time studying and maintaining your grades. the fraternity rush system limits the number of chapters you can rush, so it would be better for you to stick to houses that you’d more realistically be in.

if you like asian girls, i’d say go for the asian frats. but if you really want to be in a frat on the row, try for sig ep or theta xi, maybe even phi delt or pi kapp. that being said, BOP is an asian frat with a house on the row (across from TKE), so that might be your best bet.

So what if you are not your stereotypical jock but still a pretty fun and chill guy? I was for some reason under the impression that the USC frats had this ‘we are the world’ vibe where there was a mix of races in the frats. So, if this isn’t the case, would they be as receptive to an african american as they would to anyone else, or should I just join a black frat if I’m interested in rushing. Also, how much intermixing is there between different races and cultures at USC? Is it the kinda place where the majority of people have a real diverse group of friends or is it the place where each race primarily sticks together and doesn’t really mingle with any other races?

I’m a girl so I can’t really give that much input in frat knowledge, but I know several people in Kappa Sig. There are Asians in that frat, and in fact the vice president of USG next year is also in that frat, and he is African American. Anything is definitely possible. If you want to join a “top frat”, I’d say go and rush for it, and don’t let your ethnicity hold you back…

Generally speaking, most of the frats (especially the “top ones”) do seem predominantly Caucasian. However, I know people in most of those “top houses” who are also NOT Caucasian. A lot of those guys still fit the personalities they’re still looking for though (either athletic, really outgoing, etc). So they won’t NOT accept you because you’re a different ethnicity, but you still need to fit in with their personality.
