I pulled a bunch of all-nighters junior year, but come senior year I’ve found that I am literally incapable of all-nighters. I can stay up until 4 AM, sure. Then I close my eyes for two seconds and when I open them again it’s 7:58 AM, my homework’s still not done, I look like crap, and I’m about to be late for school.

Never trust yourself to take “naps” in between.

I had probably 6 or so spanning across 11th/12th grades. Once I even had two all nighters in a row (I realized on Friday that I hadn’t slept since Tuesday), but I would never suggest this. I also had a ton of weeks with 3 hours of sleep a night due to signing up for everything and a little bit of poor time management.

Anyways, carrying a 5 hour energy is always worth it if you absolutely need to stay awake. You can take like half if you don’t need all of it.

NAPS are awesome and you should learn how to take them well. That’s the only way I managed. Always set numerous alarms across multiple devices as well (I use an alarm clock+ my phone).

During school you can probably doze off in unimportant classes, which will give you a decent amount of energy afterwards. Talking with friends is pretty difficult, but if they understand what you had to go through and that you’re not depressed, they’ll understand.

You can always sleep on the weekends- that was my motto!

last night? not the worst, since i did get some amount of sleep, however minuscule.

but tonight’s gonna suck.
so i didn’t get home until late, and then i, of course, had to nap for a little. but then i napped for waaaay too long and now im like holy FRICK i have a whole lab to do and primary sources and this presentATION ON THURSDAY /SCREAMS/

Be wary of caffeine!! It gives you a buzz at first, but you crash later. And after a while, you’ll find that you can’t overcome the crash with more caffeine because you’re just so crashed.

I had a night class until 10pm on Wednesdays last semester with 3 other classes during the day, and it was horrible. A lot of times we had assignments due at midnight on Wednesdays after class and, as the procrastinator that I sometimes am, I’d have to buck it up and get the assignment done after running around all day. After constantly drinking coffee throughout the day, caffeine had no effect on me, so it was up to sheer will power to survive the crash.

That’s probably the most real and practical advice one can give you: have the will to get all your stuff done.

At least wash your face or do whatever skin care you usually do at a reasonable time tonight then again in the morning. Try to exfoliate if you can. I’m not a big makeup person but it’ll probably help if that’s your thing.

yeah i actually have this luminizer that really brightens up my skin when i’m exhausted. i exfoliate once a week, and if i do it any more than that, it could cause some problems, since i have the most sensitive skin ever. but i’ll wear luminizer and blush. that’ll probably work. i’ll still look exhausted, though. not much to do about that. the extremely delicate skin under my eyes gets kinda bruised looking when i’ve lost a lot of sleep, so that’s lovely LOL and i’m afraid to put any makeup there, because it gets kinda sore too… weird, ik

Hmm… Everyone seems to experience pretty bad affects from all nighters. For me, it’s quite different. For some reason, I can handle all nighters very efficiently, in fact, I tend to work more efficiently late at night! Also, I don’t feel sleepy at all the following day and I can skip a night of sleep with absolutely no side affects. Once, I stayed up all night studying, gave a test the following day, and then stayed up till 3:30AM that day, that’s more than 36 hours of no sleep. By that time I was starting to get tired.

Honestly, there’s no value to pulling an allnighter. If there’s a test the next day, then an allnighter can only hurt your abilities. On the other hand, if you have an essay or project due, you should stay up, finish it, and just take the next day off from school. Unless you’re pulling an allnighter on thursday, the rest of your week will be thrown off. I got through high school and the closest I got to pulling an allnighter was a day when I got like 3 hours of sleep.

i only had three hours and 15 minutes of sleep last night. i went home and passed out for like three hours, but at least i can focus on my hw now :D

i agree that avoiding allnighters is the best answer. but sometimes it’s not an option, if you’ve screwed yourself over too much by procrastinating.

^ yeah, I would have to agree. The closest I’ve ever pulled was a night of 3ish hours of sleep between cramming sessions. The next day sucked, but I got my work done.

In general, I either finish all my work early or settle for turning in less-than-my-best. It’s pretty hard to crank out good stuff with little to no sleep, and if you’re spending your time studying, 3 hours of sleep does better than 3 hours of pointlessly reading stuff and having it slip away before you can really retain it.

HOWEVER, if you HAVE to pull an all nighter, I’d again recommend to stay away from caffeine. It can cause to crash when you really can’t afford to. naps are always a good thing.

i know. the 5 hour energy bottle says there isn’t a crash, but BOY did i crash!!

and, yes, i’m practically useless without sleep. i like miss words in sentences and i can’t focus on anything. that was me all day… people probably thought i was high on drugs LOL

it’s always so obvious when someone’s behind on sleep.
