"So and So" High School and Applying

When adcom looks at each student's application, how do they review multiple applications from the same school? Do they have a quota for # they can accept from each school? Do they separate applications by school? According to my school's stats, A LOT of applicants (58) have gotten into Penn State out of 60 (2 that got rejected had 2.3 gpa and <1100 SAT's), but most that got accepted had low stats. My school is in NY as well so In-state benefit doesn't apply. Same goes for BU - on the BU forum, people told me BU is more of a match / slight reach, but according to my school's stats, A LOT of people with lower stats than mine have gotten in RD.

So my question is - does the school name play a good factor in deciding? If a school has good relations w/ the college and frequently have kids applying there do they accept more from it? How does it work? My school isn't a boarding school, but it is a prep, but doubt its ranked anywhere. However, we have plenty of kids going to Georgetown, BC, BU, Villanova, etc. everywhere.

Thanks.

Yes, I'm sure the high school does play a factor in admissions. I've received advice to look at/apply to schools that people from the past 5 years from my school have gone to. It's probably because when colleges accept a couple kids from one high school, they know the kinds of students that that particular high school "produces," and if those students do attend, the college knows that future applicants are serious about their school choice and would match up well.

Yeah thats what I thought. Good stuff :). Lets say multiple kids are applying to the same school from the same HS - are they competing against each other? Like does the college have a quota for # they can accept from a certain school?
