I've recently come to the realization that i REALLY want to go to penn!!! Is it foolish to get my hopes up?

I have a 3.9 UW GPA, 4.3 weighted. I am 2nd in my class of 230 at a public (not very competitive) HS
33 ACT
640 Math II , 700 Literature subject tests

I believe I have solid extracurriculars, and I've also overcome a significant obstacle

I applied to the college of arts and sciences.

Well, I think that a 33 on the ACT is just about the low point before it’s necessary to have some special circumstance. If possible, could you elaborate on what the “significant obstacle” is? If it’s something like a family member’s drug addiction or something like that it could work in your favor but if you crashed your mercedes they won’t be as impressed :)

Sure. My mom suffered from a rare disease in which she essentially became trapped inside her own body. i spent much of my life (13 years) watching her die a slow, painful death, and wrote what I believe was a very strong essay describing the effect it had on my life.

I think you could do it! Depends on your EC’s.
My sister got in ED to penn with a 2170 SAT and a 3.6/4 GPA (the lowest EVER accepted!LOL) in college of arts and sciences.
But she had super strong EC’s, first chair cello for 4 years and 4 times in prestigious activities conference, and AP Art she got a 5 as well as sending in a CD and slides of her music and art. And she illustrated a children’s book.

Also its important to have improvement. She had a 3.4-ish in fresh and soph year but ended up with 3.9s and 4.0s in junior/senior year.

You are not a superstar applicant, but I think you are in the middle of the pack. Nothing seems to stand out from the numbers, so it comes down to your essay and application package. I think you are a competitive applicant at the very least.

sat 2’s will hurt you. sat 1 MIGHT hurt, but it is still decent, so i doubt it. extra curriculars and your essay will help the most, i hope you highlighted them very well (i’m pretty sure i got in because of my extra curriculars and essay). if you really do have strong extra curriculars, it wouldve probably been better to write about one of those in your essay, and this huge obstacle to be part of your additional information. the most important part though is if you showed how it changed you (how you view life, how it affected your work ethic or studies or being with friends, etc.)
