So...did anyone appeal to Rochester's financial aid?

Anyone...or anyone planning on doing?

Yes, still waiting to hear back. I really hope this works out.....

I did, and they gave me more money.

TigerLilly, how much did they increase their offer by, and what did you use for an argument??

How exactly do you appeal their financial aid? And how much more did you get?

And who did you write to?

Hey guys -

My dad just reiterated our financial situation. I have 2 sisters (I am a triplet), and we are all going to expensive private universities next yr. His letter specifically broke down our significant spendings. My dad sent the letter to the fin. aid office - i dont think he wrote to a specific person, but when he called and sent the letter, they gave him a name of a fin aid councelor. I am satisfied w/the increase. I don't feel comfortable sharing how much more money they gave me, but it'll definitely make the cost easier on my parents. Good luck to everyone w/the fin. aid process. I can't wait to meet you guys in the fall.

-Irene

Was it a huge increase?

can you at least answer that?

no, a few grand

Congratulations tigerlilly, glad to hear Rochester was responsive to your financial situation. Wow - a triplet! Thats awesome lol - where are your sisters going, may I ask?

One is going to Carleton and one is going to Wash U. St. Louis....I'm excited to be the east coaster of the family next yr. (-:

i didn't appeal, they jsut decided to raise my offer.. i guess they saw my tax returns and realized it wasn't all as peachy as it seemed. i don't think im going to appeal directly, but i will try and go talk to a financial aid person and try to convince him/her that the situation is even less peachy.

hey chemaddict, I really want to go to rochester but I really don't think I can. I see that you are actively campaigning to Rochester...may I ask why?

also, if it not to much to ask, was there a huge difference between your 2004 tax return and the 2005 tax return that warranted an increase in aid? And did they increase your aid by alot or just a little?

I forgot to add that my dad also spoke to a fin. aid counselor when I went to visit the campus. That personal contact probably helped him make his case.

I did! Still havnt gotten an answer though...

you guys are much better than me. I haven't yet got my financial aid package!

hey, yeah, i'll be appealing. we met a counselor on friday but it wasn't the one that was assigned to me but we spoke of our background and stuff, etc., but they said we'd have to write a letter explaining the stuff...does anyone have a sample letter they could show or send me?

I appealed my financial aid a while ago and still haven't heard a thing! I wrote to the admissions officer I've had a lot of contact with on April 3rd--not directly to FinAid because I don't know, I wanted to write to someone I knew already. Anyway, he wrote back on April 5th saying that he was treating my letter as an appeal and forwarding it, and that they would try to get back to me in 7-10 days (business days, I assume). I've tried to be patient because of Easter, etc, but I really want to know what they've decided. Does this seem like a really long wait or is this typical for them?

I'm going to try to call the financial aid office this week I guess...

yeah i appealed too, still waiting for an answer. Does annyone know if they will extend the deposit deadline if they don't send you an answer in time, since the may 1st deadline is quickly approaching.

best advise: Call and ask them what's going on with your case!!
