For those who appealed, how did the financial aid office inform you their decision? by email, phone or something else?

I emailed the office after I talked to the representative, and he emailed me to let me know that my package had been adjusted. I received a new letter in the mail today.

hey, i appealed, they sent me this pdf attachment to my email...they didn't increase it all that much but it's better than nothing...they increased it like 2 thousand, so i'm basically paying like 15k/45k...i guess not bad...idk...they just increased the rochester national grant...

I think they try to increase aid for everyone who bothers to ask, even if it's only by a little bit.

My aid was actually increased a lot, but I think it would have been without my petitioning, since I received a National Merit scholarship.

i wish they increased aid for everyone who asks. i've been asking for a while, but no, they don't want to give me any more. stupid high EFC. even a bit of work-study would be nice. i don't even get a grant, just the IB scholarship thing.

if you're really bright - alot of people at the medical center'll be willing to take you in as a paid assistant.

even though we're freshman?

even if ur freshman....the guy i spoke to and took me around campus during the SOC is a freshman research assistant at the URMC. But then again, he's a chem genius =P

The rule of thumb is that, if you have labratory experiance or a freakin genuis at the topic at hand then you can get paid.

Other than that, you can always volunteer at labs, get the experiance build a relationship and then try later for a paid position.
