<p>Technically, I believe UChicago says it does not consider legacy. But people debate whether that’s true. But it couldn’t hurt. :)</p>

<p>Yes, they care. Admissions will never explicitly tell you that, but anything that shows a prospective student will be more likely to support the school after they graduate will matter. Though legacies who performed poorly in high school will not be compensated or accepted just for being a legacy. The general idea is that once a student meets the baseline for acceptance (and the baseline for UChicago would be a demonstration of decent performance in high school, potential to handle the work, etc.), then yeah, legacies have a leg up.</p>

I think my intellectual promise will be clear from my Recs and maybe essays but my grades might be the killer.
I did pretty horrendously first semester senior year.</p>
