I'm a freshman at CMU, living at Donner right now, the DUNGEON!

First two days were tough. All the leaving and sad feelings, the mattress was way too soft for me. Woke up at 4 am, thought about my parents, and cried myself to sleep again.

Then it got better. Made some new friends, the party was awesome. It's not a "typical" college party with drugs and alcohols (well, not yet), but it was so much fun. We played ping-pong, pool ball, or just hanging out, trying so hard to have cool conversations with girls.

Orientation stuff was, well, half and half. There were interesting parts but others were boring. RAs are nice, roommates felt so much more grown-up than high school classmates. Food was OK, weather is not bad.

Anyway, it's college time! It wasn't as expected at all for me but it was fun, and hopefully it would be more and more fun once the class starts and all the upper class students come back!

Just wanna post this to tell the parents that we are OK, don't worry and we miss you too, so much.

Thanks much from all of the parents who have not yet heard from our sons and daughters. Parents want to be missed but, basically, we we’re happy if you’re happy.

Hey garage, do they still hand out visors with a D on it for people in Donner? I remember they were trying to start a tradition my year by doing it, and I’m curious if it survived or not.

You also won’t see many parties in the dorms/on campus with a lot of drugs or alcohol (the most I remember is maybe 5-10 guys on a hall drinking together). That stuff is generally kept more to the fraternities and off campus.

Are you guys kidding me? Donner RULES!
Do you even have any ideas about how cool it is being the only dorm in which condoms are provided at the bathroom?

Mudge House has won the last two house wars in a row. We will be defending our trophy and putting it back in its rightful place for a third time.

Also, condoms are provided in many (most) dorms, and there is a permanently broken condom machine in Baker hall. As you all no doubt learned today from Condom Man, wise use is important.

That’s nice they moved them to the bathroom. I remember they used to hand them out to the RAs so you would have to knock on their door at 3 AM if your stash ever happened to run out. Also add in the awkwardness of asking your RA at the time you actually need it and you’ll see why I don’t know of anyone that took advantage of the offer.

I always just bought mine online since they’re crazy cheap compared to in a store and you can find a brand that doesn’t suck.

I also remember Donner barely being able to field a team for House Wars because nobody in our dorm even wanted to show up. It was kind of funny having whichever house taunt us when most of us were there on a bribe from our RA.

Garage12 - my son is also in Donner in the “Dungeon!” You can PM me but I’m sure you’ve already met!! And congrats!! - I hear Donner’s Blue Crew RULED House Wars!!
Good Luck with classes tomorrow!
