so.. for CR..

has anybody tried the barron's way of getting through the CR questions?
the side bars and the line reference.. doing the line ref questions first,
looking for the main ideas in the three places given in the book .. etc

and got a really good score?

i got a 520 on CR for the march SAT and would REALLLY like to raise that..

I mark the line references and read the passages in sections like they suggest. It helped me a lot (790 in March).

but did it help you JUMP to 790? or did you initially have a good score?

and 112358, did you also break up the passages in paragraphs and answered the questions matching to the paragraph??

When I started using it my average score went up about 50 points; I had been scoring low-mid 700s and it brought me to the 770-800 range. So it’s not like it’s going to magically get you an 800 if you’re starting in the 500s, but it may help combined with further studying.

And yes, I broke up the passages into sections and answered the matching questions.

okay thanks.

anyone else?

Well,I do the most simple thing - Read the whole passage at once,Answer the questions.It is of critical importance to understand the passage after your first reading.I spend 2 minutes on SC,2 minutes per each short passage ,10-12 minutes on the reading ,and the remaining time on the questions.You should only get back to the line references when you answer the questions.If you need to re-read the passage because you have not understood the whole idea ,you will run out of time.

I read the passage, I answer the questions and reread if there is a line reference. I got a 770 in January and have not yet received my May score.

112358, is that the strategy that Barron’s teaches you? I have a 670 and need a 750+… last test I got 4 SC wrong and 5 passage questions wrong… The SC can be improved with the 3500 words thing… I really need to get these passage questions right!!

@i took the sat
-9 = 670 ?Absurd ;)I went through this 3500 list and I hope it is worth it.I make no more than 2 SC errors (But still about 12 passage errors)…

CR7… was that sarcasm? haha is that a bad or good curve?

went through all 3500 words? geez.
barrons said skim the q’s and see if there are any line ref q’s, mark the line ref on the passage, read the passage in pieces (1 or 2 paragraphs), answer the q’s corresponding to the paragraph, save the “global” questions for the absolute last, and save the hard problems for a later time too. i really hope trying it out this way works…

Bad ,of course.A good curve is -9 = 690 ,even 700

haha… well lucky me i guess… october SATI will make up for that though =D

Meh, I’m not a fan of the method. I end up getting too distracted trying to find the answer to the question than actually understanding the purpose and absorbing it. I learned that not rushing, just slowly reading through the passage making sure I thoroughly understand it and then answering the questions worked best. Try a practice test to see what works best for you.

@I took the sat
How do you manage to read the two long passages and answer all the questions without running out of time on that horrible section with the two separate long passages ;[[

CR7-- you spend 10-12 minutes to read one passage?

idk… i dont read that much so im not really a “fast” reader… but just stay focused and the time should be enough…

10-12 minutes to read the big passage.If there are two long passages in the section,I try to read them for half that time

and you have time to read like 2~3 passages AND answer the questions without feeling rushed?
