So frustrated at my precalc grades - can't seem to get above 75 on tests

Out of 7 tests I've gotten above 90 on two and ranged 50-75 on the other five. I'm so ticked off at myself and at my teacher. I don't think he teaches well enough for me to understand the curriculum and yet even after having studied the textbook and feeling well prepared I keep failing. I have no idea how to improve my test scores. I do all the homework, I've tried going to his supplementary classes (which were no help) and I even got a private tutor before my most recent test, which I got a 75 on.

Even if I got 100 on the midyear my average would be no higher than an 88 (it would replace my lowest test score as well) and the term is ending, so there's no way to change what I've already done. What can I do? How can I average a 95 next term to keep up with my gpa? My overall average is already pretty mediocre and lowering it more would flush my chances of getting into my top choice college down the toilet.

What is it that you are getting wrong on the tests? Mixing up signs? Careless errors? Or do you not understand some of the questions?

Do practice problems in the book, especially if there are answers in the back to check. They saved my math grade.

If you are getting a 50-75 on a precalc test honestly the only solution is to study more because you obviously don’t understand the material. There is no magic formula for you to get a higher grade other than to put in time and study.

Are you the only one getting low test grades? You definitley want to do practic problems, study, and there are really good websites such as [Khan Academy](http://www.khanacademy.org) that I find very helpful. You should really talk to your teacher about getting more help, if it means staying after school for 15 minutes or coming in during lunch.

I think it’s that I don’t understand the questions. The ones on the test are different from what we do in class & in homework so even if they’re on the same topic I’m not familiar with them. I also feel that I often study for a while but still don’t understand the material - either the textbook isn’t explaining it thoroughly enough or I need to find more sources to study from. Often I read through the material and have nothing to study while still not understanding things.

Thanks for the tips

My teacher did the exact same thing. Just remember that almost everything in Pre-Calc has already been taught in your Algebra II and Trig classes…now, instead of soaking up the information through osmosis, take an extra step.
The only way I got through Pre-Calc was reminding myself that I was not placed in the classroom to ace all the tests; I was there to learn. Don’t feel bad if you’re not succeeding right away; try a new approach. Learn how to study.

You could review your old tests to see what you’ve been doing wrong.

Talk to your teacher more, it helps A LOT.
