So....grades will come out soon and one of my grades will be awful...

What do you think is the best way to break this to my parents who demanded nothing short of a 4.0 since i'm in my first semester LOL.

I did fine in my other classes, got all A's but in my chem class I totally underestimated how hard the mid terms would be and got destroyed. I'll probably get a C in lecture but lab was even worse and if I don't get at least a C in lab then my lecture grade gets changed to the same grade as lab (so a D in lab would mean a D in lecture as well).

It was a huge wakeup call for me but sadly my parents won't take it as lightly...

Well if you got all A's, besides this one grade, your parents won't know what the B looks like, so you can change the D into a B.

Admit the problem to them, ask for their understanding, let them know that you take it as seriously as they do, work out a plan to improve next semester, and present it to them for their input.

From your post, it sounds like you are studying purely to satisfy your parents. That may or may not be true, but that's what I got from the post. Personally, I try to study for myself. That way, the only person I'm accountable to is myself. If I failed but did my best, then at least I can look in the mirror and not regret my actions. Often times, I'm more of a critic that my parents and it's actually my parents who tell me to relax and take it easy.

Finally, what's done is done. While I know it's hard to take and I know that you are probably thinking about it day and night, you need to let go of the grade and focus on what you can do to avoid being in this situation again. No one is perfect and everyone will screw up. The important thing is that you learned from this and are working to improve.

Ok, I have officially reached my quota of cheesiness and cliches for today so I'll cut it off here. Good luck.

i have nothing to add but i just wanted to say that your class has an interesting grading scheme.

Don't most colleges have the whole privacy thing where parents can't see your grades? Tell them you have a 4.0...who cares?
