tulane is in the good part of town. Does that mean that it is safe? No. you have to keep in mind that new orleans is not like other cities. There will be people on this forum who will tell you that the crime that exist in new orleans is the same as in other cities. This is not true. New Orleans is a relatively small city, but it's crime rate is high.

There's really no one good or one bad section of new orleans like other cities. The crime is spread out. There are good houses next to bad houses. If you go out around tulane at night be sure to go in a big group, even then be sure to keep 5 dollars or so in your pokect because there are many robberies; there's always a new yellow flyer up about how some kid got hit in the head by a gun, etc...

new orleans definitly has its good and bad, but overall most the students are not feared for their safety. there are some incidents of robbery and car break-ins as in most cities and college areas. some areas are way nicer than others and it varies just among streets. most the college kids live closer to the campus in a relatively nice/safe area.

I've got machete wielding MS13 gang members running around my suburban neighborhood mall in Maryland so maybe my idea of safe isn't the same as everybody else's but as neighborhoods go Tulane's is pretty good. Of course if you stumble around drunk at three in the morning nearly anywhere bad stuff can happen. I know there are more muggings abductions and person on person crine around University of Maryland campus than there are arounf Tulane because I read the crime reports for both areas regularly. Maryland is in College Park, Maryland about 5 or 6 miles outside of Washington, DC.

Bottom line is I would not be any more worried about crime at Tulane than I would at any other school in a big city. It is in a very nice part of town.
