I'd like to get into a lab or a research position next quarter but I'm not sure how..

Is SRP 99 the only choice? I googled some information and skimmed through, it seems that SRP 99 kinda prepares you for 199? Anyone can confirm that?

Also is it possible to get a research position by just asking the professor via email or in person? (I guess the answer is 'yes', but has anyone here done that before?)

I'm in the engineering school by the way.

Thanks a lot

I asked a professor and as long as you are persistant, like calling or going to his/her office, then you’ll have a higher chance.

Im a physci major by the way.

No problem! Goodluck asking professors! Make sure to see what they’re researching about, they’ll usually post it on their website or personal website

[Student Research — UCLA Engineering](http://www.engineer.ucla.edu/visitor-links/prospective-students/student-research)

“UCLA Engineering undergraduates can earn upper division course credit for research under the supervision of engineering faculty, either as are part of research group (194); or in supervised individual research or investigation of selected topic under guidance of faculty mentor (199).”

I just emailed one of my engineering professors before the end of the quarter asking to do 199 research for him for the following quarter and he agreed (he was also my faculty advisor so he had already gotten to know me outside of the classroom). After the professor agrees to take you on - you just file the contract, get it approved by your department, and then you’re good to go.

Thanks I really appreciate it. BTW is Physci the abbreviation for Physiology Science? I looked at the SRP website, and most of the research positions posted there are medical related.

Thanks I really appreciate it!! I plan to email one of my professor after the final…

What’s the difference between asking a professor to participate in his research, and the below program:
[Undergraduate Research Center for Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences - Student Research Program](http://www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/urhass/studentresearch.htm)

Is the former one more legitimate?

Yes Phy Sci is Physiological Sciences.

Well most of the SRP listings are highly sought after cause, we’ll it’s because it’s posted.
The link above is usually for north campus majors, so if you’re a north campus major, go for it, if not, it’s best to stick with SRP listings (which is extremely difficult to get into) or just email professors, call their office hours, or better yet, visit them.
