So how important are teacher recs really???

I've always tended to be one of the quieter students in class, and despite solid performances in the classroom I was never the type to become buddy-buddy with the teachers.

I feel as though my teachers recs will be decent, but definitely not as strong as some of my friends that are literally almost best friends with some of their teachers. So how important are these recs really to the admissions process?

I would hope that its behind all of the essentials (ie GPA, SAT, EC's, Essay)...

Obviously it's less important than your EC's, GPA, SATs, and essay. To give you an exact figure, LORs are a 3.875 on the importance scale, which, as you should know, ranges from -15.5 to 28+pi.

haha, i like the importance scale, but what does LOR stand for?

I've always gotten the impression that they were just as important as your ECs, though perhaps not as important as GPA/awards/essay. One of the faculty members at my school told me that it's sometimes the most overlooked part of the application. I wonder if anyone can confirm that?

LOR = Letter of Recommendation. A good recommendation will not make you, but a bad one will break you. So be careful who you choose to write your letter of recommendation.

LOR = Letters of Recommendation

Page 6 of this presentation (US College Admissions Criteria) says it between 19% to 15% of an overall evaluation.

It is hard to believe anyone could get a bad letter of recommendation. it seems like most teachers would write at least an okay one.
unless they hated the student. but then again that would be dumb to ask that teacher for one anyways

where can I find more info on the importance scale?
is there an importance scale for top scales as every school values different aspects more strongly?
what are ECs, GPA, SATs, and essay on the importance scale?

or are you just kidding about the importance scale?

^^^^^^^^lololololol

it is possible to get a bad teacher rec i think.

though my teacher will tell you to your face if she doesn't want to write one for you.

No, if the teacher's twisted, he/she could actually bamboozle you into getting a letter of recommendation from her ... and then write you were an escaped felon from Alcatraz or something.

I think the teachers' recs are way more important than most people assume. I know mine were integral in my acceptances.
