So I got approved for a Pell grant and school starts next week(situation)

So my pell was almost $5816 with half per semester. However, because I only signed on part time, I will only get half of that. Is this actually true? So I paid less than $300 for books which should be over $2600 left over but after my 12 credit hours I should get what’s left over from the books and classes which will be either just over $68(if only half counts) or if counting the total amount($2908) and deducting from that it will be over $1522. Or maybe the books and classes don’t count as part of just half of the pell and I will get half of the $1522+ which is $761.

So what will I get back $68, $1522, or $761?

Pell grant doesn’t care how much your books cost or even your tuition. You get 1/2 of 1/2. Pell grant is $2908 per semester, if you are only taking 6 credits per semester, you’ll get $1,453. How much is your tuition?

My tuition is $1086.

Looks like that will cover your tuition, books and a little bit more.

Pretty much. Does any of the FA cover lunch like the Subway at my college?

My suggestion…learn to pack a lunch. Your money will go further packing a sandwich, piece of fruit and some cookies than buying anything at subway. And buy a refillable water bottle. Use that too.

You are on a limited budget. Eating out should be a special treat…not lunch every day…or even once a week.

FA will cover your tuition… if you end up getting money back you can use it for whatever you like (books and food, for example), but there is no specific financial aid that will cover lunch.

@thumper1 gives good advice… it is amazing how much little things, even like getting a cup of coffee out, can add up! The more that you can pack lunch, drink water by filling up your water bottle, etc… the farther your money will go.

And get a computer coffee mug as well. Brew your own and take it with you. Costs a ton less than a Starbucks!

*commuter coffee mug

Thanks! Yep…commuter mug!!

Well I don’t go to Starbucks and I will be pretty broke until I can find a job.
