So I guess Emory does mail out decisions early..

btw I was accepted with 11 Aps (including the ones I'm taking this year) with a 96.6 average / non-emoryscholar) and I am a NON URM (korean doesnt count as URM)

wogus, i may have missed a post, but i don't think anyone was suggesting that those people got in because of their race. we're all just curious as to why some people are getting letters already when others aren't. the trend seems to be that all the people getting letters already are URMs, which is probably because, as jf215 pointed out several posts back, there is a weekend for admitted african american and hispanic students on april 2nd. everyone is a bit on edge right now, so i hope no one was offended, as that isn't what i (or anyone else, i don't think) intended.

also, wogus, you said you were accepted and aren't a URM or an emory scholar (and i'm assuming you're not an international applicant). did you get in early decision or as a semifinalist for ES? because if not that probably means other non-URMs will be hearing soon...

I was accepted as a ED1 , didnt want to risk my chances of getting in by doing ES, since emory was my first choice ever since my sophomore year.

well i have 11 APs...all honors....club presidencies...val etc etc
i think that the URMS(myself included - haitian) are getting in cuz of that weekend
don't worry, the people on college confidential seem to be among the top of the applicant pool..it can be a bit intimidating being on this thing

"BTW, has anyone here who have been accepted have above a 1400 and above a 95 average with honors/aps because I have heard that they tend to reject kids with high credentials. They weighlisted a girl from my school last year with perfect stuff and she got into almost every school including princeton, columbia, mit, duke, stanford, etc."

1450, URM, accepted last week...I don't think a blanket statement like this is really fair

" They weighlisted a girl from my school last year with perfect stuff and she got into almost every school including princeton, columbia, mit, duke, stanford, etc."

In making admission decisions, Emory weighs demonstrated interest in Emory. I imagine that the "perfect stuff girl" may have felt so confident that she could do better, that she didn't bother to demonstrate much interest in Emory, and thus they waitlisted her.

Overconfidence

I am an URM

I wonder if at any other nation they take this race thing seriously...

It's all hypocrisy I tell you.

Be yourself.

Ladybajan, are you from Barbados?

WHEN ARE WE FINDING OUT? I really wanna hear back within the next week... then I'll go visit over spring break!

Hi yulsie, I am half Bajan. My mother is from there. :)

hmm regarding an earlier post saying that Emory don't like to accept people with high stats. However, doesn't it just hurt them in the end? I don't understand this. I fully respect the "well-rounded kids" but don't any college want some smart folks in their school as well?

what are all you accepted peoples stats

POST POST POST

1240 SAT 550M 690V
3.9 GPA
3 APs, 7 Honors classes

that is exactly why i want to find out soon--i don't expect to get in, but if i do i have to visit emory as well as 2 other schools that are plane flights away-(i'm hoping to combine some of these trips)

You know what I hate the most with these schools and "demonstrated interest" ****? They're confirming everyone's belief taht Harvard is better than than them b/c they need the satisfaction that their applicants want them instead of harvard. And what I hate about some applicants is that they believe harvard is MUCH better than schools like EMory. HELLO it's number like 19 in the nation for a reason. They need something much better than "demonstrated interest" to determine whether they want a student or not. My guess is that that girl's essay prolly wasn't good cuz she's overconfident or she came off really snobby so there's always a reason. demonstrated interest isn't everything. Someone with poor credentials can just show up and say you gotta accept me. It's a flawed system if it's true

that is why you want to write about poverty hahah xP
