okay for real i hav no clue when ppl start finding out from emory, so for this reason when u find out say when u found out and where u live (wat state)

i post on this thread!!! wat!

scarsdale, ny, nothing yet. though i'm sure you can just check on OPUS for you r decision so i don't think the state you're from matters much as far as receiving the decision goes.

yo ur the person who knos tom, holy crap maybe we both applied to all the same schools- craziness :P

I live in NJ and I got an acceptance letter last week (the 2nd week in March)!!!!!!

are you a URM?

what's urm?

"under represented minority"

So i've been reading the stats of accepted people, and I'm getting discouraged. Not because they're so good.. the exact opposite. They're not bad, but I guess I expected better. When I got in with my stats I thought i got lucky. Now i'm starting to worry that Emory is lowering its standards. Any thoughts?

Hey DryL553... Emory knows what they are doing, so no worries:) ANd you should still think that you are lucky. I saw your stats and I don't see it better than other people by much. So don't get discouraged.

emory looks at a lot more than scores and grades. unlike a lot of similar schools they look at essays and recs and extracurriculars very closely. emory obviously thought there was something about you that would add to the college. they dont just want a bunch of kids who just study. and besides, there are some kids at my school who have higher grades and sats than you that werent accepted ed. dont stress.

being good at SATs or exams is a completely different thing from being good at a subject and a top student. there is a reasonable correlation, but there will always be loads of exceptions. Exams and tests are unfortunately the best of a bunch of bad ways of measuring people.
over here in the uk it's much more about interviews and references to get into top unis.

Also, often people who dont need to do any work in school and get top marks get to uni, and since they're not used to working they flunk. This happens at every uni to a percentage. It's often people who had to work hard and didn't get full marks who keep working and get the top grades at the end of university. And universities know this.

thanks nmrvictim. i hope u didnt think that i was trying to say that i'm better than anyone else. from what i've seen, everyone else who's accepted is much more qualified than me. sorry if i sounded like i was trying to be cocky.

I get low Bs in difficult classes, but I receive 4s or 5s on the APs.

I got in!!!

Just got it in the mail like a minute ago - pretty exciting

Accepted...wow im so thrilled this is the only school i could ever see myself attending and i just got in and im just so so excited!!!!
