Is UCSD a good school if I decide to get into pharmacy.

well it depends if you want to work in a hospital (really competative) or in a walgreens or somewthing like that. If you want to work in a hopital now days you generally have to intern for a year or two. And I think pharm school is 3-4 years.

So I need to get a bachlelor of science in biology or chemistry. Then I would need to apply to a school of pharmacy. So it could be 9 or 10 years of education and internship until I'm actually a pharmacist.
How difficult is it to get into a school of pharmacy compared to med school.

One more question. Does UCSD have a school of pharmacy? If not, any good ones in California?

i think ucsd does have a school of pharmacy. You can major in anything you want to get into pharmacy school, you just have to fill the requirments. In fact a molecular and call biology at berkeley which is what most pre-pharm majors take is a BA not a BS (weird I know). So you can be a history major if you want as long as you do the required classes. Pharm school is difficult to get into but it is harder to get a job in a hospital (if that is what you want to do). Generally in CA the newly hired pharmacists ( that work in CA hospitals) which I have met come from UCSF which is the best pre-pharm program in the state.

You can get your pharm d degree in 6 years total if you start out in a pharm program.

^
Pharm program? I'll assume it's very hard to get into... But may you elaborate about the Pharm Program?

yes the 6 year degree pharm program is really difficult to get in especially at UCSF and UCSD = Only apply to these 6 year programs if your stats are literally perfect. If you wants to stay in CA you might want to look into University of the Pacifics 6 year pharm program.

What if someone was rejected from a school of pharmacy? Do they apply next year? What happens?

I'm also looking into pharmacy...but im not exactly sure what I want to do with it. I'm majoring in pharmacological chemistry...and most of the of the major requirements are covered for the prerequisites for pharmacy school. But yeah, you can definitely major in whatever you want...it just seems like it would suck to have to take a lot of extra classes. Usually pharmacists major in biology or biochemistry for undergrad. The Univ. of Pacific 6 year program is very easy to get into...I got into it anyway. they also have a 5 year program (2 year undergrad, 3 years pharm) but its a lot of classes a quarter and summer school, so I'd rather not.
Of course you should apply to many pharmacy schools, and it is best to have a bachelors degree before you go, though as far as I've seen only two years are required. But people with a bachelors degree are more likely to get accepted.
I doubt you would get rejected from all that you applied to, but im sure you could just apply again next year if you had to. If your college GPA doesnt suck (more than a 3.0) and you have an internship, and good rec's, I doubt you wouldnt get accepted somewhere....I have a lot more to say, if you have anymore questions....

Ok thanks. I'm very interested in Pharmacy. How much does the college you attend affect your chances of getting a good job.
For example, someone who attends well know school like UC san fransisco compared to a school that is not as well know. In what way would it affect when applying for a job?

how do you get into the pharm program at UCSD? I've never heard of it.
