In French today (I'm in French IV), my teacher decided to tell the 'advanced' juniors (in her eyes, definitely not mine, lol) that she has signed us up for AP French, which happens to be on Monday. FML, lol. I am not at all confident that I score well with a day of review (I need to study for SAT IIs and don't have much spare time between now and Monday) and doubt I'd get higher than a 3, which is something I don't want on my AP record. It's obviously too late to get the school to not order the test, so I'm wondering what my options are.

So far, I've heard that my options are as follows:

a) Not show up on Monday and just not take the AP at all

Would this work? Would it appear as a 0 or something on my AP record? I'd rather take the test just to gain the experience and practice, but I don't want the 3 either.

b) Cancel the score?

How does this work? I don't want it to seem like I got a 1/2 (which colleges infer based on canceled scores?) b/c I don't know any French. I just feel totally unprepared at this point...

Yeah, I don’t believe she should be able to do that. Just say you’re not taking the test, especially since [I’m assuming] you’ll be taking AP French next year.

Well, at our school, everyone in an AP class is automatically signed up to take the AP, and you generally can’t get out of taking it. The thing is that I’m in French 4, and I’ll take AP French next year, so I honestly didn’t expect this at all.

And @Objective
Hm. Maybe I’ll cancel the score then. How do you go about doing that? And you’re sure they don’t find out you took it?

But you answered your own question…there is no way they can require you to take the AP exam if you are not in the AP class. Your teacher is insane.

In most schools you have to pay for the AP (approx. $60) and also sign up. As far as I know there is no obligation to take the test at all. Have your parents talk to the principal if necessary.
