So I was put on Academic Probation

Do other schools do this?

I got a D in Chemistry last semester, and my school sent me a letter saying that I was put on Academic Probation until the end of the school year. Basically, it said that if I don't improve my grades, I'll get kicked out, and I'll have to continue my education at my home school (a crappy high school in a very low income area with no AP's at all). Will colleges see that I was put on probation? Has this happened to anyone else?

I've never heard of that. Do you go to private or magnet school?

It's kind of like a magnet school, but it's called a school of choice (only two in my county). It's a grade 7-12 school and it has extra requirements to graduate. To get in, you have to get picked through a lottery. It's the 7th highest scoring school in Florida I think. My school is really strict with everything.

I should have done better in Chemistry, but my teacher requires us to keep an interactive notebook, and I lost it near the end of the semester, and it was worth a TON of points. I'm not that bad at Chem. I just don't enjoy it, and I don't like my teacher.

My dad is really ****ed off right now. It seems like I can't do anything right. I might as well have asian parents :D . I think if I were to have a heart attack, he would force me to go to school the next day.

I'm feeling really stressed right now. I knew at the beginning of the year that I was going to be screwed. I know all the teachers in my school, and once I saw my schedule, I freaked out. It couldn't have been much worse; all the teachers I got were die hard homework-giving, busy work-promoting, strict, and hard grading teachers. This happens to me every year it seems.

That sucks. Especially since it seems it was just a stupid assignment meant to "boost" grades that did you in. I know you're probably looking for pity and hope, so I'll give it you.

My school has a similar "academic probation"-except you have to do this humiliating round of getting each of your teachers to sign every day because of even 1 class you are failing. (Let's say you're failing health-each day until the next marking period-each teacher has to sign that they know you are failing!!!) andddd you can't join activities/or even try out. Which sucks and is unfair.

Colleges probably won't care that you were on academic probation (if they even know it at all), but only that you got a D. If you really are somewhat good at chemistry, maybe take the subject test in Chemistry (self-study first) or re-do it over the summer, online, etc and do really well. Show colleges that it's your school's grading policies and NOT you that's the problem :)

Good luck :) (P.S. I hate chemistry & my teacher too!)

Argh, that really sucks. What a BS assignment.

Explain it in your college essays?

I'm going to redo the first semester of chemistry with a different teacher. My dad just made three copies of the letter. For what reason, I do not know. And out of nowhere, he is giving me chores...at 9:00 at night. I don't get it. He knew that I had a D in Chemistry before I got the letter. And the letter basically just told me I needed to get a C or above in all my classes. I have all A's right now....

I will because that assignment was so big, and my grade went down the drain when I lost the notebook.

Hahaha. My dad makes copies of everything and stores it in some sort of filing drawer so I don't lose it.
Maybe he's trying to make sure you don't burn it or something :D

Probably. Just a second ago, he asked me what my GPA was; I told him it was around 3.5 and he said, "Like you can get into a good school with that", in a sarcastic tone. I don't think he understands that it's out of 4.0

Actually, now that I think about it, even if I get kicked out of my school, it wouldn't be that bad. The high school in my city has a community college right next to it (dual enrollment) and it's supposed to get an IB Program (as much as I dislike IB, it is better than nothing).
