So, illegals will get financial aid, while tuition keeps going up?

That’s not the point, mexico is practically a third world country, and America has classically been a haven for less fortunate peoples, i agree education reform is a priority, but it would be ingenerous and unfair of us to let well qualified students go broke going to college to improve their lives

With all due respect, what you said was somewhat ignorant/misleading. YOu’re making it seem as though the “Latino population” don’t “have a right” to be in the US. When you say “they” you’re saying that I don’t have a right to be here, I am latino. My grandparents are from Puerto Rico, hence why they are citizens. Puerto Rico has “latinos”, therefore, when you say “latinos”, in a sense you are saying that a spefiic group of US Citizens don’t belong here, yet they are citizens of the US. Whose to judge who was a right to come here?

That “response post” was directed at whoever said that “latinos dont have a right to be here”

Quite frankly, I find your response to my comment to be ignorant/misleading… I never said that the Latino population has no right to be here. I said that the ILLEGAL Latino population has no right to be here. Do you have any idea how many millions of people are in line for a U.S green card? Do you have any clue how many people, across the world, look at the U.S Permanent Resident Lottery as if they’re playing for a million dollars? What gives people the right to enter a country without permission just because their own country is right next-door?

Think before you speak.

This all comes down to one simple thing: there are laws and laws should be followed, not circumvented and broken. All emotional and personal stories aside, laws have to be followed, whether they apply to immigration, copyright or murder. There definitely needs to be immigration reform and those kids have no one but their law-breaking parents to blame for their dilemma. But two wrongs don’t make a right. True, they are in an unfortunate situation, but screwing over California tax payers is no way to go about fixing this issue.

I agree that the illegal mexicans shouldn’t get financial aid, but they shouldn’t all be deported. I mean we need people to mow our lawns.

Ah, I was wondering when the trolls would show up

Everywhere I see you posts, you’re either bragging about your son’s ACT/SAT score or complaining. Seriously, give it a break.

Anyway, who are you to judge other people? Do you have the power to know what other people have faced or their predicaments? I do not expect all white people to be rich and powerful, so neither should whites think all Mexicans are scum; we are mostly a hardworking people.

I had no choice in coming to America, so why am I to suffer the consequences? My parents pay taxes in Texas, so am I therefore not deserving of at least some of the benefits any other American receives? My family does not abuse the system in any way; we live a rather reserved live. So if I have more knowledge than the average Joe, am I not therefore deserving of some benefits? /rant

Before one makes huge generalizations, an effort to understand others must be undertaken. We are all immigrants in one way or another, so we should try to get along. Instead of picking on minorities, focus on the parasites of society: lazy bums, abusers of benefits, and basically all of Washington and the bankers.

Learnerforlife, I just wanna say, I love the obvious straw man. Really, I do. This is literally how every crazy liberal person I know in life argues.

Guy #1: Ah man, I hate Carlos Boozer. He freakin’ sucks. The Bulls need a new player.

Liberal: Are you saying Latinos are an inferior race? And that the White race is supreme? Just letting you know, I am Latino and I am proud of it so you can shove that down your throat. I hope you die and I hope all the Latinos in the world take over America and show all you White folks what being Latino is all about.

Guy #1: Um…that’s not what I said…and also, I’m Japanese.

Liberals staw man like conservatives exaggerate

May I just step in and reiterate a comment made earlier in this thread, that everyone seems to be ignoring:

It’s worth noting that a substantial portion of illegal immigrants are from Asia, and that’s particularly true of undocumented students.

That’s really a separate issue. Everybody should be able to afford a public education. That there are people that can’t afford is squarely the fault of the state.

Not if he’s from a different state. CA really shouldn’t care less what a kid’s grandparents did.

And we should copy Mexico … because it’s a better country? I don’t see where you’re going here.

I love the obvious straw man prefaced by a rant against straw men. It’s why I get out of bed in the morning.

… God That’s awesome

Again, you’re making it sound as though all the illegals come from Mexico. When in fact, the US Department of Justice has a case involving illegal immigrants from russia. Practice what you preach.

This conversation is actually really interesting! :p

Great analogy. Especially considering that many Americans illegally emigrate to mexico, identify themselves with the mexican culture, and get treated like second class citizens even though they compromise a large majority of the population
