I think I can handle the cold, but I can't handle it if people are constantly complaining about it? Do Mac students tend to be whiners about the brutal winters? Or are they the "grin and bear it" type? Or the "wow, it's so beautiful here, we love MN!" type?

Totally random question, and probably a stupid thing to be considering when looking at colleges, but I strongly believe that how frequently people complain about things is a very DEEP indicator of...something...

xD

Anyway, WINTERS: how do Mac kids deal with them?

Remember, we're going to be starting about 2 weeks later next year, so winter break is only a little more than 4 weeks. I say only because it's been 6 in the past. So we will be staying until the 20th of December before going off for a month, so make sure you can mind the weather.

January is the bad month in Minnesota. Last week was definitely cold, with lows of minus 25 and a 3 day stretch where the temp did not get above zero. Today is a balmy 24, so my daughter left the house in a tank top--she did grab a coat, but probably didn't button it. You adapt quickly, and the nicest thing about Minnesota is that nothing really shuts down because of the weather. Also, Macalester doesn't start 2nd semester until the last Monday in January (the 26th this year)--so with occasional exceptions, the true brutal cold is over.

People complain sometimes, but not in a constant, whiny sort of way. It's cold, so people are going to comment on it, but even then, it's more of an acknowledgment of the situation than really whining. That was rather vague, I know, but from the Mac winter that I've experienced so far, I wouldn't be worried...Then again, what would/wouldn't worry a clone of me might be different than what would/wouldn't worry you. I suppose I'd choose "grin and bear it."
