some of us are officially set on going to UCSC which colleges are everyone looking at? I think we all know the stereotypes pretty well and obviously everyone has their own preferance but where is everyone thinking? Stevenson seems pretty sweet to me but there doesnt seem to be much discussion about it...?
Anyway my current ranking

I’m studying physics, so I’m sure I’ll be around enough nerds so i don’t necessarily want to live in Crown; I also am a serious student and wouldn’t be able to hang with some of the crazy **** that supposedly goes down in places like porter. I’d like to find people who are serious about school, and also know how to have a good time and party occasionally.

i lived in stevenson over the summer, as ive said before, and i loved it. the big sports fields are right down the hill from you, and there are a lot of little pathways that are nice to walk… plus it has a direct view of the ocean going out towards the fields. it looks like it is right there lol.

so im now picking between crown, college 9 & merill…
can some one please give me some tips in which ones are (i know this is going to sound stupid) the nerdiest? and the least?
i guess im just really concerned in that i want to really focus on my studies but at the same time i am definetely not nerdy and i still want to be around people who know how to have fun and not just sit at their computer all day… (sorry if this offends anyone)
thanks! :D

I’m currently a freshman at UCSC. I’m at stevenson and loving it! Stevenson and cowell are basically the same, except i feel like all the Cowell kids come to us to find parties for them more often. Crown is pretty nerdy, but there are definitely people are are just serious students who want to do well, but also like to have a fun time. Don’t dismiss crown just yet because of their nerdier reputation.

I don’t know. : > I’m really flexible and I don’t mind most anything, but I’m definitely looking for a college that seems really quick to bond/knows how to have fun (but able to study, too!). I know for sure Crown students know fun. : ) I think those who study hardest know how to enjoy their time off, haha.

I’m not sure about Crown but both college 9/10 and merrill seem to fit your description. I’m at merrill and contrary to popular belief a lot of people like aleiram51 said have fun on that hill.

lol one of my friends is a freshman at Merrill and I hear about pot…alot, I guess.
lol.

I don’t know if I’ll be attending UCSC, but it’s one of my top contenders right now. Based on what you guys know, what “environment fit” would I match?

College 8 I think, has emailed me, but I Think that might be because I’m the enviromental club prez at my school and that was in my app. lol.

-I’m no good at science. lol. So not the science one for sure.
-I’m really into words, so books/writing/etc are cool with me.
-Don’t want it too outside of the school, so I want it close to the community and have a lot of interactive stuff.
-I’m not really into parties, just here and there. I don’t mind them, but I dn’t want a place that parties so much that I can’t focus on my studies…That being said, I gotta say I get distracted easily…
-What was I saying? lol jk. I know you can go to any dining hall you want, but I like good food. So yeah.
-Hm…I like Harry Potter and Pokemon. lol. Not into video gaming, but I just bought a new Pokemon game for the ds…lol.
-Nice surroundings.
-Diverse is good, in terms of people.

Lol, I don’t mind parties, I just need to make sure I can study. Don’t think law school would appreciate me flunking out my first semester of college.
lol.
I’m really sociable though -_-
I like talking to people and making new friends.
Porter/Kresge were a couple of my choices lol, but Cowell was at the top.
What about college 10?

I am torn between Porter and Stevenson. I am sort of an arty person I guess (some would say hipster, but bleh I hate that word). I am a social person and am not opposed to occasional parties. I find it hard to believe that Porter is THAT crazy, I mean this isn’t some NYC art school or a commune in the backwoods of Vermont. Also I am interested in meeting people I can go to shows with, because Santa Cruz has a pretty good punk scene. Would I be more likely to find those types in Porter, or elsewhere on campus?

@Algebraic, you would probably fit in perfect at Porter.

I wouldn’t really look into parties being a factor at any of the colleges. Most parties are located off campus because CSOs usually close down parties on campus. However, Porter and Kresge do have some parties at the apartments (not dorms).
