So Long, Undie Run...

UCLA ends student Undie Run due to safety concerns / UCLA Newsroom

That’s what you get when you post your un-official traditions on YouTube. Every HS kid for 50 miles away knows about the “undie run”…tailgate parties for the event were not far behind (no pun intended).

Why do I have the feeling this isn’t going to stop many people…

Thats a pretty sad typo coming from the UCLA newsroom.

And I agree - I don’t think this is the end of the undie run. Its just going to go back to public streets or something.

Hello naked run? :P

@OaksMom There’s probably 100x more videos taken by news staff, creepers from the community (count the old guys at strathmore bridge) and various unscrupulous members of the los angeles community

They can’t stop us if we ALL do it.

Pretty much what I was thinking. Even if only a tenth of the people do it, that’s still too many to arrest or kick out of the University.

As long as you have underwear on and your pubs aren’t sticking out, there’s nothing they can charge you with.

Come december we are going to see who is actually dedicated to keeping the tradition going.

I was upset at first too but then I thought about it like everyone else. This is NOT going to stop the Undie Run, guaranteed!

^ no, but I bet the university is going to try to make it as unpleasant and inconvenient as possible, which will discourage people from continuing after fall quarter.

kind of like Halloween on Del Playa at UCSB; the most fun in the world until the media picked up on it …

I still think UCSB handled it better than almost any other school. Unlike most huge college parties that typically ended in heavy handed police crackdowns (Cal Poly Mardi Gras 2004, UC Davis Picnic Day 2006, etc), UCSB hasn’t tried to crack down on Halloween, only to keep out of towners away and make it more safe for students (by installing lights, forcing cars off Del Playa, etc).

I do hear that Halloween is much more tame than years before, but I still had a lot of fun :)
