So my Guidance Counselor hates me

I hardly meet him at all during the school, year, but when I do, I always end up making a bad impression or make a blunder. I can pretty much tell he hates me (Gets annoyed whenever I meet him, often talks to me in a passive aggressive voice).

The thing is, does my GC have to write a college recommendation for me? And if he does have to, will it have as much impact as my teacher recommendations?

I’m pretty sure that’s normal. Guidance counselors generally can’t cooperate

That’s not true, my guidance counselor was the best! so were most of the ones at my school. Yes, your GC has to write a rec, but the teacher recs are weighed more heavily.

^ what guinea said. I’ve heard of (extreme) cases when people ask a faculty member (despite not having a positive relationship) for a rec letter, and the teacher listed the faults of the student in the letter.

I agree, that’s not true! My guidance counselor is amazing, and I trust him immensely. My day is made better every time I have to go see him, even if it’s an unpleasant topic. He’s really fabulous at calming me down when I’m worried about something in my schedule, and always ends the meeting on a lighter note. I will walk into his room ridden with anxiety about something, and not 5 minutes later I’ll be laughing with him about the same thing.

I hate my counselor for being incompetent and screwing up my schedule, but am polite with her and she doesn’t seem to dislike me.

I doubt she hates you, it might just be his/her personality with all of the kids.

Mine won’t turn in my Common Application stuff!!! All he has to do is turn in my transcript and his letter of rec!!! But he is “too busy”. Doing what???
That is HIS JOB!!!
But I’m not bitter…

You might end up with a generic GC rec, but I doubt you’ll end up with a bad GC rec. Honestly I feel that the only time you need worry about a GC rec being bad is if you’re well… a bad student or if teachers get a bad vibe off you and gossip.
